The man snarled and lunged forward, swinging his other fist at my face. I ducked and delivered a quick punch to the man's gut, causing him to double over in pain. But the man quickly recovered and came at me again, swinging wildly.
The whole bar erupted in chaos. People started shouting and pushing each other. The bartender jumped over the counter to try and break up the fight.
But I was focused solely on the guy in front of me.
I could feel my adrenaline pumping, my fists clenching and unclenching.
I gave as good as I got, maybe even better. I landed a few solid punches, and his nose started gushing blood. But the guy kept coming at me like he was possessed.
"Reed!" Juniper's cry caught me off-guard, and using that second's diversion, the man placed a vice-like choke hold on me.
I struggled, trying to break free, but the man's grip was too tight. I felt a surge of panic as the man's other hand reached for something on his belt.
In a split second decision, I slammed my knee into the man's crotch, causing him to cry out in pain and release his grip.
I quickly followed up with a powerful punch to the man's face, causing him to stumble backward and crash into a table, knocking it over.
As the man lay dazed on the ground, I grabbed Juniper's hand and pulled her toward the exit.
We burst out of the door and into the night air, adrenaline pumping through my veins.
"Are you okay?" I asked once we were in the car, checking Juniper over for any signs of harm.
"I am," she said, shaking her head. "But are you? I'm sorry, I was hiding out in the bathroom when someone came in, screaming about a fight. I came out and saw you beating the shit outta that guy—what happened?"
"Fucker was trying to roofie someone's drink," I muttered, still enraged. "Had to stop him."
"Reed," she whispered, her voice soft and sweet. "You never stop amazing me."
Before I could turn around and respond to her, my phone lit up with a message. Hunter.
I hope you're not losing sight of your mission, Sarge.
Clenching my teeth at the way he called me "Sarge" and wishing I were back in the SEALs where we pounded people for such stupid generalizations, I pushed my phone into the glove box.
I turned my head to meet Juniper's gaze, but in a second, her forest eyes bore down on me, and before I could make head or tail of anything, her mouth was on mine, crushing and commanding it as she kissed me, her mouth so soft it made my head spin.
Something primal awoke in me, and I kissed her back, meeting her speed. A heady minute later, I drew back, my breathing labored.
"Wait," I muttered, my tone raw with need. I started the engine and drove the Accord until we found a relatively deserted spot in an alley.
After stopping the car, I pulled Juniper to me and resumed kissing her. I shifted from my seat and crouched over her, touching her, totally oblivious to how uncomfortable this would be at any other time.
Right now, my vision had room for nothing but the stunning woman in front of me, her curves flowing like the rain on my windshield.
My fingers unbuttoned her jeans and pressed against the dampness within just as my mouth came down on hers, muffling her little cry with a kiss that shocked her with its hunger.

She did the same, our movements quick and deft even in that limited space. She pushed me back in my seat.
