Once that fuckin’asshole left our property, I grabbed Sina’s hand and led her right to the front door. She squirmed in my hold and gently pulled her wrist away from me.

“What’s going on? It’s late. And I’m still horny.”

“Well, hold it the fuck in, Pretty Bird. Something isn’t right.”

Pissed, she furrowed her brows and crossed her arms. “Of course something isn’t right with Jaroth. Nothing ever has been. But that doesn’t mean I can tell the monster inside me to slow down. She’s—”

I grabbed her chin in my rough hand and forced her to stare up at me. She was damn cute and all, but we had a problem that needed to be figured out now.

“We’ll fuck you when we get back. This is serious.”

After she finally snapped her mouth closed, I wrapped her into a coat because it was getting chillier down in Durnbone, especially at night, then nodded to the guys. The only person who might have some idea about Jaroth was Xorgor, Maxine’s boyfriend.

We walked through the chilly fall forest toward Durnbone, the sounds of the night echoing around us.

Sina stepped closer to me and wrapped her hand around my forearm. “Where are we going?”

“To see Maxine.”

“Maxine?” she asked, eyes wide. “What does she have to do with this?”

“Not her, but her boyfriend.”

“You think Xorgor knows something?”

Branches snapped around us from a couple of small squirrels scurrying through the woods with nuts. I pressed my lips together and stared ahead at the horizon of lights illuminating from the town.

“He knows more than I do.”

Once Sina pursed her lips, she nodded and looked at the ground, tensing so suddenly that she came to a full stop on the outskirts of the woods. She wrapped her arms around her body and glanced around. “Something feels … off.”

“Off?” Gaian asked, stepping next to her.

“I don’t know,” she whispered, staring at Durnbone. “I can’t explain it. I feel … energy.”

“Energy?” Calder asked, stopping feet ahead of us and glancing over his shoulder at her.

Her gaze drifted from the middle of town toward the demon sector. “Yes.”

I grasped her hand tighter again. “Well, we don’t have time to waste. We have to talk to Xorgor. If it gets worse, tell me, and we’ll stop.”

After sucking in a sharp breath, Sina nodded. “Okay.”

We continued into Durnbone, finding the quickest path to the other side of the town.

“I can’t believe that fucker wants Sina to poison us,” Calder growled. He looked down at Sina and held out his large hand. “Give me the vial.”

When she stared at him through wide eyes and raised her brows, I tugged her along.

She frowned up at him. “Are you being serious? Why do you need the vial? Do you actually think that I’d poison you guys?”

“No,” Calder snapped and grabbed the vial from Sina’s hand. “Next time he shows up on my property, I’m going to kill him with this.”

Sina surprisingly pressed her lips together. “Good.”

“Good?” Gaian asked, suddenly chirping into thelovelyconversation.

“What? Do you not want that asshole dead?” I growled at him.
