I took Calder’s hand.

“I will stay with Calder and heal him the best I can. Don’t worry about him. He’ll be back to the way he was for you.”

With all his strength, Calder squeezed my hand. “You know I would try to stop you if I had my strength. I wouldn’t let you go at it alone.” He gestured for me to move closer to him and lowered his voice. “You’d be bound tomybed and carrying my pups.”

“Stop it,” I scolded softly, peeking a glance over at Dad, who leaned against the doorframe with his arms crossed and one brow raised. “You can’t say stuff like that whilehe’shere.”

“I can say whatever I want, Pretty Bird. This is my pack house.”

“Not when I’ll be the one caring and healing you while my daughter is gone,” Dad said, though I could see the slight amusement in his eyes.

When I returned for war, I’d have pups, but they wouldn’t be true Paragons. True Paragons had two Paragon parents, like me. My pups would be half-breeds, and while I wanted to help continue the bloodline, I could never even consider leaving these guys.

No matter what, I was with them until the very end.

After stifling a laugh, I gently placed my hand on the back of Calder’s neck, leaned down, and kissed him on the lips. I didn’t know how he and the others had done it, but they had changed me from the Sina who cried from just thinking about herabuserto someone who’d go fight him.

“Thank you,” I murmured against Calder. “For everything you’ve helped me become.”

“Come home to me,” he said, his eyes softer this time. “Promise.”

“I promise.”

Once we gathered everything we’d need in this war against my abuser—mainly potions to prevent paralyzation—I gave Calder one last kiss and headed to the front door with my guys and with my father.

“Keep an eye on Calder, will you?” I asked Dad. “Make sure he doesn’t get too out of hand.”

“He’s not going anywhere,” Thayer joked.

I arched a single brow. “Calder is always a surprise. You never know with him.”

Dad chuckled and pulled me into a hug. “I’ll fix him for you, Sina. He’s not going anywhere.”

“I’ll see you soon,” I said with a smile on my face. I stared at the guy who had not only given me the physical power to fight, but also the father who had inspired me to eliminate the man who had pretended to be him. “Very soon.”

“Good-bye, Sina,” Dad said, gently squeezing my shoulder.

“Bye, Dad.”

After Sina leftto travel with the guys to herfather’sestate, her real father didn’t return to Sina’s bedroom, where I lay until almost midnight. He walked in with a large glass bowl, herbs, and some blood in a container.

I eyed it, then scanned him, wondering what he’d been up to.

“Why’d you really stay behind?” I asked. “With the power that you possess, you could’ve stopped this war for good. That man who calls himself her father is only human. He might be smart, but he doesn’t have your strength.”

“Sina must face her demons alone,” her real father said to me with his back turned. He placed the bowl on Sina’s dresser and began pouring in ingredients. “She will get nowhere in life without pushing herself to become a better and stronger Paragon every single day. She must do this herself.”

But I could tell that it was only half the story.

“What’s the real fucking reason?” I asked.

He hummed softly to himself, as if he hadn’t heard my question, and stirred the ingredients together until the liquid turned a dark blue color.
