Darius ran a hand over his dreads. “We should’ve stayed back with Thayer and Calder.”

“They’re running through war plans and didn’t want Sina to be around for it.”

“Yeah, but I’ve got a bad feeling about today.” He tugged on a Moon Goddess necklace around his neck, the way he always did when he was nervous about something going on with this war. “Somethin’s not right.”

Sina’s father’s goonshad beenquiet ever since she’d been back in Durnbone. We hadn’t been attacked once, and Calder kept saying that his alpha senses were acting up, telling him something wasn’t right either.

We just couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was.

“All I’m saying is that I think her father is more dangerous than evenwethink. Yesterday, when you went to shower, Sina mentioned that she didn’t want her father to be part of her love life anymore, and she sounded extremely upset about it. Like … he had done something—more than just take her away from us.”

My chest tightened, my canines extending. “Do you think he hurt her?”

“She wouldn’t say a word more about it. I didn’t want to press it.”

“Table for Gaian!” the hostess called out. “Gaian!”

Darius and I followed the hostess back to a table near the rear of the restaurant, one that overlooked the town outside the window.

A few moments after we sat, Darius stood back up and nodded toward the restrooms. “I’m going to make sure she’s okay.”

Once he disappeared into the crowd of people, I sat back in my seat and ran a hand over my face, hoping to the goddess that Calder was taking care of this now. We needed to pinpoint where her father was and kill him for good. If he had touched her …

I tightened my hand around my glass of water so tightly that it shattered in my fist.

If he had hurt her,Iwould kill him myself.

Blood seeped down my forearm from the shattered glass lodged into my palm. I glanced up to see Sina hurrying over with Darius, her eyes wide in fear.

“What’s going on?!” she said, gently taking my hand and pulling out a shard of glass. “What’d you do this for?”

After she pulled the last piece of glass from my hand, my palm started healing almost immediately with the help of my wolf senses.

She poured some of her water on a napkin and ran it across my hand. “Why would you do this?”

“I’m pissed,” I said, finally taking a deep breath and relaxing. “Sorry.”

She widened her eyes at me. “You never get pissed.”

“He does,” Darius said, leaning closer to her on their side of the table. “You’ve just never seen it.”

As the last of my palm healed, I pulled my hand away and clenched it into a tight fist underneath the table so Sina wouldn’t see. I didn’t want her to think of me like she thought of Calder; I didn’t want her to hate me too.

“Why are you so angry?” she asked. “I can see it written all over your face.”

“Did your father hurt you?” I asked, unable to stop myself.

“What?” she whispered.

“Did your father hurt you?”

Her cheeks paled. She ran her tongue across her dry lips and stared down at the wooden table, gently playing with her hands in her lap.

Darius looked over at her, brows furrowed. “We need to know, Pretty Bird.”

Sina suddenly clenched her jaw. “My father is gone. I don’t want to talk about him.”

“But—”
