“Don’t lie to me, Pretty Bird. Those cuts were done by a wolf.”

And then he disappeared into his bedroom.

After last night,I really needed a drink. So, somehow and someway, I convinced the guys to bring me out to the tavern where Maxine worked. As soon as we walked into the room, I scanned the place for her but instead found a couple of unfamiliar girls behind the bar.

She must be off tonight. Or maybe she was out with Xorgor.

I hurried away from the guys, spotting the bartender handing a man a huge glass of Midnight Moon that was just calling my name. My mouth watered at the sight of him, and if I were anything other than human, saliva might’ve started dripping off my canines and onto my chin.

Thank goodness I wasn’t one ofthosenasty creatures because then I would’ve been a thousand times more desperate last night with Calder. I scooted onto an empty stool and leaned forward. I hated how I’d begged for him last night.

“Give me a Midnight Moon but stronger,” I said to the bartender.

She furrowed her brows. “Are you sure? We have some human—”

“A Midnight Moon,” I repeated.

There was no way in hell that I could stand some cheap human drink that barely had any alcohol inside it. I needed something strong as fuck because I was trying really damn hard not to lose my cool. I refused to go through the heat again tonight.

Before Calder could sit next to me, I pulled Darius into the empty seat.

I especially didn’t want to be around Calder tonight.

That man had the audacity to glare at meafter he left me during heat!He was lucky I hadn’t found one of his unmated packmates to spend the night with. Hell, Calder freaking deserved something like that to happen after I found those skanky girl’s panties in his room.

After sending Darius a death glare, Calder walked over to the farthest seat away from me and sat down, then asked the bartender for a Midnight Moon too. This chick flirted with my guys right in front of me, unbuttoning a button on her shirt before she handed the guys their drinks.

She hadn’t even given me one yet, and they each had a glass sitting in front of them.

“While this drink comesvery slowly, apparently,” I said, “I need to use the restroom.”

The guys eyed me as I stood, daring me to walk away from them. But I was about one more eyelash-bat from this chick away from snapping her neck with my own two hands. Heat crawled up my neck at the thought of someone else trying to take them away from me.

“I’m going to the bathroom alone,” I ground out. “I don’t need you guys holding my freaking hand. I’m not going to run off with anyone. Don’t worry.”

Before they could give me another look, I hurried to the restroom, slammed the door closed, and splashed some water on my face. Gods, it was warm in here. Warmer than it had been the last time we were here, playing with that toy.

I gripped the porcelain sink and stared at myself in the rusty mirror, noting how all my facial features looked the same and reassuring myself that this heat was a coincidence and not because Dad had succeeded in his experiments.

After I thoroughly convinced myself, I took a deep breath and headed out the door, bumping into the one and only incubus Jaroth. He smirked down at me, his eyes surprisingly clear and not lust-filled, like usual, and grabbed my wrist.

“What are you doing?!” I whisper-yelled at him, then tugged my wrist out of his hold.

“I want to talk.”

“We are not getting back together,” I said between gritted teeth.

“I know that, Sina,” he said, glancing over his shoulder, as if to ensure nobody was listening to our conversation. When he turned back to me, he scratched the back of his head. “I know you told me not to ever talk about this again, but …”

He paused for a long moment, and I swallowed.

“But what? Spit it out.”
