I knew she needed to talk to someone, so I held in my anger with her father and held her for the entire night until she finally fell asleep in my arms after crying her eyes out. She needed me right now.

Staring out the window into the forest, I wondered why the gods would do something so horrendous to Sina. She had gone through so much fucking torture all by herself because she thought it was normal.

It didn’t make sense, and it wasn’t fair to her.

At one a.m., I heard the guys walk into the pack house. Calder growled about something having to do with Sina’s ex-boyfriend, then barreled up the stairs and down the hallway. I gently rubbed Sina’s head and closed my eyes, wondering why we hadn’t seen this before.

We had spent so much time with Sina as children and teenagers. How could we have fucking missed that she was being abused at her own house by men thirty or more years older than her? Why hadn’t we seen it? We were her fucking mates.

Calder must’ve been looking for Sina because he came banging on my bedroom door a few moments later. Instead of waiting, Thayer opened the door, and they all walked into the room, their gazes landing on Sina.

“Si—” Calder started.

A growl escaped my lips, and I bared my teeth at him. Sina had been through so fucking much tonight. I wasn’t about to let her deal with Calder, the fucking asshole. As if he had never been talked back to before by me, he stared at me with wide eyes.

“Don’t,”I said through the mind link.“She’s been through too much tonight. Don’t start.”

“We need to talk about what her father did to her,”Gaian said.

“I already know,”I said.“She told me everything. She doesn’t need any more stress tonight.”

“She told you?”Calder asked.

While he didn’t look angry per se, he looked upset, and I didn’t know why. He was the one who had hidden shit from Sina, and he was the one who had pushed her away. But seeing the cold, hardheaded alpha upset made my stomach turn.

“Yes,” I said aloud. “She told me.”

“We ran into her ex-boyfriend,” Thayer said.

Immediately, I tensed and placed Sina down in the center of my bed. Once I knew that she wouldn’t wake up, I scooted out of the bed and grabbed a shirt to pull over my head. Instead of waking Sina, I nodded toward the hallway.

We all walked out of my room, and I shut the door softly behind me. “What’d he say?”

“That he wants her back,” Thayer growled. “We gotta fucking watch out for him. Something about him doesn’t seem right to me. He’s too fucking nice to her, and demons in Durnbone are not nice at fucking all. There’s nothing good about any of them.”

“He’s her ex,” I said, shrugging. “He probably knows what happened.”

“I agree with Thayer,” Gaian said, shocking us fucking all. “Something is off about him.”

“What is it?”

Gaian paced back and forth in the hallway, crossed his arms, and shook his head. “I don’t know. I just have a bad feeling. I’ve never seen the guy in Durnbone before Sina escaped here. Now, all of a sudden, he’s just here all the time.”

“He wants Sina back,” Calder concluded. “Of course he’s going to be here.”

“But what if it’s more than that?” Gaian asked.

“It’s not more than that,” I said. As much as I wanted to get rid of him, we couldn’t. “Sina told me that he knows her father is gathering men at the border to come find her. He’s going to find out as much information this weekend as he can for her.”

“Goddamn it,” Calder said. “Why does she keep that shit from us?”

“I told you at the tavern,” Thayer growled. “It’s because you’re an ass.”

“There is no time to fight,” I said. “We gotta get through this weekend, and then we can confront him to see what kind of information he found. If we think he’s lying, then we can take care of him.”

“I’lltake care of him,” Thayer clarified, eyes glinting red. He turned around and stormed down the staircase, heading in the direction of the prison, where he loved torturing and killing people who had betrayed us. “In the only way I know how!”
