When we reached the pack house, I nodded to Darius to dump the vampire on our couch. “Get as much blood from him as you can. Sina will want to use it to make those potions for us in case her father attacks.”

“What do you want me to do with her?” Gaian asked, eyeing the pregnant woman who had stopped crying and was clutching her baby bump.

“Figure out what the vampire wanted from her, then bring her home. Make sure she has people who will look after her and protect her. If she doesn’t, then she will stay with us. Sina wanted to protect her for a reason.”

Once Gaian nodded, I followed Thayer upstairs to the bathroom. Sina was covered in blood, and I doubted that she’d want to wake up like this tomorrow morning while in my bed. Thayer ran a warm bath, then leaned against the bathroom door as I undressed our mate.

“You’re right,” he muttered, voice gruff.

I laid Sina in the tub and grabbed a soapy sponge to wipe her off. “About what?”

Thayer growled, walked over to sit on the edge of the tub, and grabbed the sponge from me. He drew it over the blood that covered her collarbone and clenched his jaw. “About working together to protect each other, but it’s fucking hard for me. Nobody in my family fucking cares to work together. They only care about themselves.”

“Fuck your parents,” I growled, tucking some of Sina’s hair behind her ear. “We’re your family, Thay. And we have to protect Sina, no matter the cost.”

As he washed the blood off Sina’s chest, he stared emptily at the pink water. “If we’re family, so is Sina. You’re not going to get anywhere with her if you keep fucking pushing her away even if she now wears your mark. I know you can feel how much she’s been hurting because you’re a fucking dick to her.”

Fear washed over me, the thought of Sina hating me now making me feel nothing but regret. Thayer was right. I had tried to repair our relationship only slightly, but it wouldn’t erase the past few weeks.

What if Sina saw my mark on her tomorrow morning and … rejected it?

What if she rejected me?

“Mate will love us,”my wolf said.“She has to. We’d do anything for her.”

But … what if my wolf was wrong? What if she really hated us back? I would finally be able to hear her thoughts and could only imagine how badly she thought of me. Whether I had marked her or not, I would’ve been fucked either way. Only marking her would make things worse.

“I shouldn’t have marked her,” I said, reality quickly setting in.

This was so much worse than her father taking her away from us. If she hated me herself, then I couldn’t do anything about that. I would have to live with the thought of my mate not loving a single thing about me.

Thayer stopped scrubbing the blood off Sina. “That’s not what I meant.”

“Yeah, but I shouldn’t have fucking done shit to her. She’s going to fucking hate me.”

“Maybe,” Thayer said with a laugh, tossing me the sponge. “But you’re the only one of us she seems to submit to, even subconsciously right now. She’ll come around, whether she hates you or not. Just don’t be a dick to her, and maybe …” He stood and walked toward the door. “Maybe she’ll fucking love you one day.”

I wokeup in Calder’s large bed alone. Moonlight flooded into the dark room from the window. My head pounded harshly, vision shifting for a moment. After clutching my forehead, I pushed myself up to a seated position and leaned against the headboard.

“What happened?” I whispered to myself.

The last thing that I remembered was cleaning myself up in the bathroom. Everything after that was a blacked-out blur that my brain either couldn’t remember or didn’t want to remember. And part of me feared that this … had happened before. So many times, I couldn’t remember anything about those endless nights at Dad’s estate.

What if someone … what if something bad happened? In front of my guys too?

Deciding that I needed to at least see if someone remembered, I shuffled out of bed, realized that I was completely naked, and scrambled to the closet. Fear rushed through my veins, remembering that I had woken up like this so many times at Dad’s estate. Naked and unable to remember the hours before.

After taking a deep breath, I let my shoulders roll forward and picked something relaxing to wear from the closet— a T-shirt and sweatpants. It might’ve happened before with random people, but my guys wouldn’t do anything like that to me.

Once I pulled on my clothes, I walked to the door and caught myself in the mirror by the dresser. I stopped dead in my tracks, my mouth drying and my eyes widening as I caught sight of a wound on my neck.

It wasn’t just any wound.
