the training

The next morning,I woke up next to Gaian with his strong arms wrapped around me. I slowly blinked my eyes open and stared up at the ceiling, somehow feeling even more power than yesterday swell through my body.

Morning sunlight flooded in through the windows. I inhaled deeply and frowned when I didn’t smell the sweet, fluffy waffles that Darius usually made in the morning.

“Darius,”the monster inside me whispered.

I furrowed my brows slightly and wondered where he had gone off to yesterday. After Gaian had marked me, he had seemed to have completely disappeared from the pack house. I searched everywhere for him because it was our time to spend together without the other two.

But he had left without so much as agood-byeorI’ll be back.

Had he come back sometime last night? Was he okay? Or had Dad gotten to him first?

Turning from my back onto my side, I stared at Gaian and nudged his sleeping frame. “Hey, do you know if Darius came back home last night? I … I’m kinda worried about him. I didn’t hear him or the others enter.”

“I don’t know,” Gaian mumbled into the pillow, his rough hand still clutching the side of my hip. He pulled me closer so my body was pressed flush against his again. “Go back to sleep, Pretty Bird,” Gaian murmured into my ear, his lips tickling my neck.

While I wanted to jump out of his arms to find Darius as soon as possible, Thayer slammed Gaian’s door open and stood with Calder in the hall. He crossed his arms over his chest. “I fucking told you that she was with Gaian.”

“Fuck you guys,” Gaian grunted, snuggling closer to me with his head in the crook of my neck. He hadn’t opened his eyes yet. “It’s too early for you to be fighting already. Let me spend another hour with her myself.”

“It’s almost noon,” Thayer said, stepping into the room and grasping the large blankets that covered our naked bodies. “Get the fuck out of bed, Sina. We need to practice your power and hone your strengths. Gaian, I don’t give a fuck what you do. Sina’s coming with us.”

When Thayer yanked the blankets off us, I grumbled and pushed Gaian off me. A low, feral growl exited Calder’s throat, and he stepped into the room, glaring at my freshly marked neck.

These boys were going to drive me crazy with their jealousy. Why couldn’t they just get along already?

“You marked her,” Calder said, voice gruff.

I fought the urge to roll my eyes because I didn’t want to offend him. I realized yesterday that I might’ve been a bit too harsh with wanting him and Thayer to leave. He had been through so much, but still … most times, his possessiveness was overbearing.

“Yeah, I marked her,” Gaian mumbled into my neck. “Now, leave. She’s mine.”

A low growl rumbled from Thayer. “She’s ours.”

“You guys,” I said, shuffling up to the headboard and grabbing another thin sheet to cover my bare chest. It shouldn’t have mattered because they had all seen me naked, but I was too tired to fuck this morning. Gaian and I had been up all night, talking. “I don’t have the energy for fighting.”

“We’re not fighting,” Calder said, jaw clenched.

Instead of shoving him back aggressively for getting too close to him, like I expected Thayer to do, he laid a hand on Calder’s shoulder. “We’re not fighting, Pretty Bird. We’ve just … come to an agreement that’s hard to hold out on.”

I arched a brow and crossed my arms. “And what’s that?”

“That none of us can fuck you until everyone has marked you.”

“Pfft, like you guys will be able to hold out on that.”

“You’re not making it any easier,” Calder growled, gaze dropping to my barely covered breasts. “It’s hard as fuck, not getting to touch you after we marked you, especially after seeing more and more marks on your throat.”

Thayer turned away and walked toward the door. “I swear, we gotta force Darius to do it already. You won’t last another fucking day. Anyway, Sina, get your ass out of bed. It’s training time.”

After I pulled myself out of bed and tugged on clothes to cover my body, I followed Thayer down the stairs to the first floor. I glanced around the pack house, noticing Darius’s bedroom door open, but I couldn’t find any sign of him still.

“Where’s Darius?” I asked, chewing on the inside of my cheek. My stomach turned into knots, the mere thought of him being gone alone not sitting well with me. “Has he come home yet from yesterday?”

“He went out this morning,” Calder said, appearing inches from me and staring hungrily down at me.
