Moving beside her, I maneuver her against me as I slide behind her, my ass on the car and her ass on my lap as she leans into me. The douchebag stares at me. “We’re in middle of a fucking conversation.”

“Go right ahead.”

“What?” He takes a step forward. “Scared your girl will pick me?”

Dude, after years of dealing with Morgan, there’s not much that scares me, but I keep that to myself. Instead, one of his teammates urges him away. “Come on, man. We can’t do this on school grounds.”

Morgan watches the exchange until they’re out of sight. “Do all of you dumb fucks just sit and think of ways to be bigger dumb fucks?”

“Pretty much.” I grip her hips and turn her to face me, then drop my hands down to her thighs, skimming them up until they’re just under her skirt. “He really thought he had a chance.”

“Maybe he did.”

I laugh into her neck as I pull her closer. The thought scrapes my nerves, but I know her better than that. “No, he’d never stand a chance with or against you. No one does.”

She mutters something that sounds like “You’re a jackass, too” as I go in for an extensive, patient kiss. Pulling slightly away after a few moments, Topher shouts that he’s ready to go. Gladly. I was ready when we pulled into the parking lot hours ago.

I was surprised as fuck when Morgan agreed to ride here with me. She couldn’t let us make the trip in my truck, though, and insisted on driving her Audi. But I still counted it as a big win. Much bigger than anything I accomplished on the field tonight.

“For real. Let’s get the hell out of here,” Topher shouts as Neil and Savannah make their way to his truck.

Morgan pushes off me, moving to the passenger side of her car. When she pulls the door open, I’m shocked as hell. “You’re driving,” she says, then drops into the seat.

“It’s your car. Youwantedto drive.”

“And now I don’t.” She rests her head against the seat and closes her eyes.

I don’t mind driving, I just prefer to drive my own vehicle. Instead, I drop into the driver’s seat of her Audi and follow Topher out of the parking lot.

Morgan keeps her eyes closed, her face serene for a change, but she looks exhausted. “We don’t have to go,” I suggest.

Her eyes never open as she responds, “I want to.”

“You sure? Because you look ready for some sleep over there.”

She finally looks to me. “If you can’t hang, just say that.”

“You’re the one falling asleep in the passenger seat of your own car.”

“Bored.” She blows out a breath. “Just fucking bored of it all. I want to be done with everything. Now. But I know I have to take it slow to make sure it works out.”

I don’t poke around on the topic of tormenting her father, because I see how angry and hurt it makes her every time she talks about it. So, instead, I say, “Bored, huh? Regret passing on the defensive loser back there?” The statement irks me, but my need to poke her outweighs it.

“Sure. Turn around,” she says flatly.

Still lying. Some things will never change. Including me knowing better than to call her out. “Liar, liar. You’re such a crier.” That gets her attention.

“I’m gonna need you to shut up and drive.”

“Trying to.” I really am. Reaching over, I place my right hand on her bare thigh and keep my left on the wheel. “You’re really distracting. I had to watch your sexy ass on the sideline the entire game without touching you.”

“Are you sure it’s not a hard-on for the loser back there? Because jealousy sure did seem to get you going.”

“I was jealous.” No point in lying to her. “But at least I can admit the truth.”

She shifts, leaning over the console as she informs me, “The truth won’t get you fucked, only fucked over.”

“Then lie to me. Still waiting to hear those words.”
