“And you don’t want to play withme,” Drew spoke up. He had no clue about what I had just put in motion but he did know what I was legally obliged to. “Sol owns his name and brand. This last contact ensured he did. After completion of the first two albums he was well within his rights to release independent music whenever he wanted. You really should be more hands on with your label, Malcom. Seems to me like you’re not well versed in what your artists are doing or have the ability to do.”

If looks could kill.

There was no way in hell he would take our word for it. He would have his team review my contracts but Drew was on his shit with negotiating my terms and my lawyers were equally skilled with making sure the contracts were ironclad and protected my interest.

“What are you proposing?” he asked through clenched teeth.

“Lawsuit goes away. The complete video from that night is sent to us. After we make sure it’s leaked to the public to counter the clip your son made available, Sheets offers a formal statement with a full apology to me.”

“Fair enough and how can I be sure that doesn’t make it into the wrong hands and that no future issues will arise?Legalissues.” He motioned to my phone.

“You can’t be sure. You’ll have to just trust that I’ll do the right thing. I’ve proven to be a man of my word even though you and your family have not.” I stood and adjusted my jeans. Drew followed suit. “You get this handled within the next twenty-four hours or I’ll assume you’re declining my offer. It’s a one and done deal, Malcom.”

With that I turned to leave with Drew in step right behind me. As soon as we walked out the office, I heard Malcom yelling on speakerphone because Sheets’s voice followed.

“Get your ass in here, right now.”

“I’m a little busy, Pop…”

“I didn’t ask if you were busy. Move your ass now, son.”

We bent the corner, passing the receptionist desk on the way out. She rattled off something about it being nice to see us to which I tossed my chin. As soon as we stepped onto the elevators, Drew shook his head in amusement staring at me.

“That took some balls.”

“Mine are present and accounted for so…”

“You’re dealing with Crew again?”

My drug dealing, childhood friend who’d funded my studio time without question since I was slinging all the dope he needed through the studios where I recorded before I signed my first deal.

“No, only with this.”

I meant what I said. My past was my past.

“Nothing in this world is free, Sol. What did that cost you?”

“Don’t know yet and don’t care. It’s always whatever when it comes to protecting home. If Liq had been honest from the gate, things never would have gotten this far. It’s handled and we can move on.”

He understood, so there wouldn’t be any further discussion about the situation. Me again protecting him.

“And what about the situation with Dresden? You give her everything?”

“Yeah, she wanted to think about it.”

As we stepped off the elevator Drew caught my arm, staring at me with a smug grin.

“What?”

“She shut you down, didn’t she? Didn’t see that shit coming. She has the chance to officially make Sol her baby daddy and she said no. Ain’t this some shit? I think I like her now. She might be alright.”

“She didn’t say no.” I frowned.

“But she didn’t say yes either and that shit is fucking with you. You want this more than she does.”

“I want her to not be stressed about the possibility of Dresden trying to stake claim to her kid. They both deserve better thanhim.”

They deserve me.
