“You want her and the kid. That’s really what you want and what you think she deserves is you.”

Yeah I do.

And if she walks. I’m not sure how the fuck I’ll deal with it.

“Can we go now?”

Drew held his hands up in defense and fell in step beside me when I walked off. “Once I’ve get confirmation that Sheets is going to do the right thing, I’ll set up the meeting with Dresden.”

“Alright.”

I pushed through the glass doors, heading to the small parking lot next to the building. Drew was heading in the opposite direction toward the parking garage when he yelled. “And while we’re dealing with this, how about you steer clear of claiming any more kids for the time being?”

I smirked and threw my hand up shooting him a bird before saying, “How you feel about me making one of my own?”

“Sol…” he warned.

“I’m just fucking with you, Drew. I hear you loud and clear. No more kids…”

For now…

“You look mighty cozy down here?”

Kaliq lifted his head, glancing at me when I entered my studio and approached him. I leaned against the wall adjacent to where he was sitting watching as his fingers moved over the control panel. The melody playing sounded very bluesy but there was a heavy bass controlling the overall sound. I focused on the notes of a piano woven into the background and grinned.

He made this for me.

“Too much bass. Smooth it out some and I can probably work with this.”

His eyes never left the soundboard but I could see the cocky smile that surfaced from the view I had of his profile.

“Never said it was for you.”

“You didn’t have to. The music hides no secrets.”

He didn’t answer me but his hand was in motion again leveling the bass. He made a few more adjustments and then leaned back bringing me into view after increasing the volume. Lyrics moved around my head until I heard the low rumble of his chuckle.

“You’re already writing something.” He sat back in his chair a bit and I nodded, unable to contain my smile.

“You’ve gotten better.”

“Or maybe I’m just that good. Always have been.”

He was.

“Good enough to produce a few songs on this next album.”

“I can, if you stop fucking around and write something worth producing.”

I laughed, allowing the genuineness of my smile to mirror his.

“I’ll see what I can do.” I walked around him and settled into the chair next to his. My elbows pushed into my thighs and I moved my palms over my head, keeping my eyes on the floor for a long moment.

“What’s up, Sol?”

When I lifted my head again, his eyes were narrowed on me. His posture was still relaxed but his expression was cautious.
