I hadn’t been with anyone since arriving here. A month or so, but there were people who I’d been pretty consistent with when my schedule allowed. She and I were different. This meant something.

Another reason I shouldn’t be here.

“What’s a while, Cadence?” I moved closer and slowly lifted her chin when she dropped her eyes. “How long?”

“Since Gracie.”

“Fuck,” I muttered under my breath. “I can’t do this.”

“Why not?”

“Because it’s not right. I’m not right, not for you and I don’t want to take advantage of the situation.” I dropped my hand, allowing my fingertip to glide across her collarbone, moving further until it glided down her shoulder and arm. The way she trembled beneath my touch had my dick growing harder by the second.

“You’re not taking advantage. I’m the one asking.”

“Which makes it that much worse. You don’t know shit about me.”

Because you look at me like I can give you things that just aren’t possible.

“Why does that matter?”

“It just does.” My hand landed at her hip, pulling her into me. “I swear I need to stay the fuck away from you. I’m gonna break you in a million pieces and not because I want to, simply because that’s who I am and what I do. I break things, people.”

“Maybe I want to fall apart. Even if I know it’s gonna hurt like hell to pull myself together again. Some things are just worth it. This, right now, is worth it.”

For me, yes. She was definitely worth it. Cadence thought I was too. I could see it in those multi-hued eyes. We both knew it was too late, this was happening and there wasn’t a damn thing either of us could do to stop it.

“Just remember I warned you and when that day comes that you realize you hate me for this, just know I tried to walk away.”

I lifted her chin toward mine, leaning in slowly as my fingers dug in deeper to her hip bringing it closer. When I pulled her lips between mine my body came alive with the type of energy that felt dangerously close to destruction.

“One last chance?” She needed to be sure.

Cadence had no idea of how far I was willing to go when I wanted something. Right now, she was what I wanted but I also didn’t want anyone else to have her when I was done.

Not that I could prevent it from happening but I could make her remember me each time someone came behind me leaving her disappointed.

They wouldn’t be me.

She would hate them for it.

“You’re stalling…” Her words were haggard like she was barely able to get them out. I smiled devilishly, lifted the hem of her shirt, and yanked it over her head.

“Say yes.”

“Yes…”

My eyes slowly moved over her neck, shoulders, and breasts. This girl.

She had no idea the devastation I would bring just to make sure she felt every piece of what I had to offer.

I wondered if she could read my thoughts from the way she sucked in a breath. My fingers slipped beneath the lace of her bra, moving slowly over her ribs around to her back until I had it unhooked and it landed at her feet.

My life offered women in excess. Women who did their bidding based on their level of sex appeal and I had fallen victim to more than a few but oddly enough none could hold a candle tothiswoman.

Primitive.

I fingered the button of her shorts, working it open then dragging the zipper down.
