“I don’t.”

Brushing a hand over my head my eyes dropped briefly before finding his again. “You do and I understand why. I should have called. Sent you a text or something. That’s my bad.”

He offered a tight nod and it took a minute but his body eventually relaxed. “Maybe I should have gone with you if what you found keep you out all night.”

He barely smiled which had me grimacing with the memory that he wasn’t the only one I’d fucked up with.

“Yeah, maybe you should have and I would have made better decisions.”

I pushed past him, heading back to my room, tugging my shirt over my head. It landed on the dresser while I kicked off my shoes and stepped out of my briefs and shorts next.

After a quick shower, I dressed in Nike shorts, skipping a shirt, and headed back downstairs to find something to eat.

Kaliq was already working on a bowl of cereal so I did the same deciding to keep it simple. He sat on the counter while I took a spot at the table.

“What Drew say about the video?” he asked with a full mouth before forcing more while he waited.

“You saw that?”

“Hard not to. Shit’s everywhere.”

That made me think about Cadence. I wondered if she was doing the same thing my brother was. Researching what the world thought about my latest fuck up.

“Not much he can say. Said he’s gonna try and find out who leaked it. He thinks Sheets had something to do with it because of the way the clip was edited.”

“You mean the fact that all they caught was you swinging on him?”

“Yeah, exactly that. Drew thinks if he can find the original, it will prove I was just defending myself. Sheets came at me first.”

“Why does he need that? There were at least five other people in that room. They saw how it went down.”

“And every one of them have their heads so far up Sheets’s ass that they would never speak against him. If he doesn’t want them to eat, they don’t eat.”

He didn’t like the reality of my current situation, neither did I, but we both had to accept the position I was in.

“Bunch of bitches,” he mumbled. “I guess it’s good you found something to keep you busy. Seems like we’re gonna be here for a while.”

I hated that the idea of staying didn’t sound so bad, but only because it meant more time with Cadence.

“Maybe not. Drew’s working on some options.”

“Drew can’t make that muthafucker do the right thing. He had it coming and not just because of the shit I got caught up in. He’s a snake ass bitch. Everybody knows how he gets down.”

But you still fell into his trap.

“Not much either of us can do but wait it out. It’s not a total loss. I’m writing again. Good shit too.”

Kaliq stared at me with a smug ass grin that matched my own at times.

“What?”

“Nothing, just saying, she kept you out all night and has you writing new shit. No wonder you’re not pressed about leaving.”

“Nah, it’s not like that.”

So he couldn’t see my lie, I kept my face buried in my bowl while I finished off what was left of my cereal.

“Then what’s it like?”
