Don was now standing behind Toby and was looking down at me with his brows pulled tightly together, shadowing his dark eyes.

“If I’d let you-.” I began, then another loud sob tore through me.

“The exact same thing would have happened.” Don said. “Ifyouhad told me your plan, you’d have still insisted on being the one who pulled the trigger. We both know how stubborn you are, nothing would have changed. I’m just glad that Toby wasn’t dumb enough to think you didn’t need a backup plan.”

He placed his hand on Toby’s shoulder and I felt a small smile lift my lips.

“I’m glad you told him.” I whispered, my eyes falling back to meet Toby’s. “I’m so stupid.”

“You’re not. You’re brave.” he said, and Don laughed.

“I think you’re both.” he said, and I felt the small smile grow.Of course he did.

Toby shoved his elbow backward into Don’s knee, then reached up and wiped my face with his thumbs, not that it made much difference.

“Come on Vixen, let’s get you cleaned up and into bed.”

I nodded my agreement and Don disappeared for a moment. When he came back he passed me a bottle of shampoo. I began to wash my hair as Toby took a loofah, squirted a generous amount of Lemon soap onto it, and scrubbed gently at my skin.

When I was clean and had finished my emotional outburst, Don switched off the water and wrapped me in a warm fluffy towel. He carried me to the bed and silently dried me. I watched his face as he took his time and rubbed carefully at each inch of my skin. His brows pulled together angrily each time he found a new bruise, then softened when he moved to a pale, smooth patch of skin.

“Thank you.” I murmured when he stepped away with the towel in his hand.

“Do you want a shirt?” he asked quietly and turned away from me.

“No,” I said with a frown. “What’s wrong?”

He ignored me and went to grab a shirt from his drawers despite me refusing one.

“Adonis.” I said and he flinched.

“Nothing is wrong. I just-.” He paused and swept his tongue across his lower lip. “Just put this on.”

I gave him a suspicious look.

“Tell me what’s wrong.” I said more firmly this time.

“Isn’t it obvious?” Toby asked from the bathroom door where he was stood with a plastic bag that I presumed held my destroyed clothes.

I shook my head and pulled my lower lip between my teeth. They both glanced at each other as if they were communicating telepathically and Don leaned down to tug on my chin.

“Please put this on Nutmeg.” he said, handing me the shirt. “I’m having a war between my head and my dick right now.”

Oh.

I stifled a laugh then looked down at my naked body. Yeah, that must have been a confusing sight.

I looked back up at him and my throat went dry at the stern expression on his face. Toby stepped forward, dropping the bag and fixing me with the same look.Holy shit.

“What are you going to do if I don’t?” I asked, lowering my voice and pushing out my chest.

“Vixen, you’ve had one hell of a day.” Toby said. “Neither of us are going to do anything that could hurt you.”

“I can take it.” I said and snared Don in my gaze.

“She can.” he whispered so quietly I almost didn’t hear it.

“No.” Toby said firmly. “You need sleep.”
