“Shoot.”

I walked into The Hellhound a few minutes later with Toby at my side. I knew I had every right to be there, I’d been invited. But having Toby with me made me feel a hundred times more comfortable. No one’s going to attack the boss’s son.

“Eves in the back.” A tall, rugged looking man said from behind the bar. “Drink?” he asked.

Toby shook his head, but I paused and pointed to a bottle of bourbon sitting on a shelf. The barman poured me a small measure and I knocked it back before catching up with Toby.

“My boy.” Yvette exclaimed as we both walked through the archway that lead to the back of the bar. “I didn’t realise you were coming.”

“Of course I came mum.” he said as he embraced her tightly. “Any news on-.”

“Toby!” A booming voice rang out, but neither of the two men sitting at the table before us had opened their mouths.

Yvette grabbed a tablet that was propped up on the table and spun it around to show us the screen. Charon’s bruised face was taking up a large portion of it and I felt my shoulders sag.He made it.

“Dad?” Toby said, grabbing the tablet to get a closer look. “You’re alright. Oh thank fucking god.”

“He had nothing to do with it,” Charon said with a husky laugh. “It was all me.”

Oh, I like him.

“Well, now that you know the good news, can we please hurry up and have this chat. I’ve got a pig in the oven that I need to get back to.” Yvette said, circling the table and sitting between the two men.

“Oh love, I miss your cooking already.” Charon said.

“I know, I know. Toby put your dad down please and take a seat. You too Adonis.” she said, drumming her fingers impatiently on the table.

“What do you need to discuss?” I asked as I pulled out a chair and sat down opposite her.

“The future of The Brotherhood.” she began. “As far as I could tell from the clean up yesterday there isn’t much of a gang left. There seems to only be you, Cooper, and – oh what was his name? Matthew, Mitchell, Michael?”

“Michael.” I confirmed. “I didn’t realise he got out. I presumed he went down like the rest of them.”

“Yes, he got out, he’s actually in the cellar right now.” Yvette said breezily.

“He’s what?” I choked out.

“In the cellar. We weren’t sure if he could be trusted, so we chucked him in there until you got here. He came to us off of his own back though.” she explained. “So, can he?”

“Er, I think so. I’ll let you decide how you feel about him.” I said.

“Great, you’re making this very easy. So seeing as there are only three of you left, four if Megan wants back in, are you planning on re-building?”

We had discussed this over dinner last night. Although we had presumed that none of the Brothers had made it out alive.

“No, we’re not going to re-build. The Brotherhood is over.” I said.

One of the two guys next to Yvette raised his brows while the other looked at her warily.

“Are you sure?” she asked. Clearly voicing what the two men wanted to say.

“Never been more sure of anything in my life.” I said. “Although, I do have a favour to ask of you.”

“Oh really?” she said, tossing an amused glance at the tablet on the table.

“Shouldn’t he be askingme, it’s my gang.” Charon said, sounding like an overgrown child.

“Yes dear, it’s your gang. Ask him, not me.”
