I had no idea how much time passed, but it felt like it must have been hours. I cursed myself for leaving my phone in my bag, damn these figure hugging skirts with no pockets that I loved so much. There had been no sign of anyone coming to let me out, and I couldn’t be bothered to try to unlock the door or smash it down. Instead I blindly searched for something warm and thick to lay on and curled up on the floor. May as well have a nap while I have nothing else to do.

***

Muscular arms wrapped around my waist, dragging me upright, and my eyes snapped open as my fist instinctively swung in the direction of the body that had entered the wardrobe.

“Fuck.” Adonis wheezed on a pain filled exhale. “That’s the last time I come and help you when you’re screaming.”

“What?” I asked, wriggling out of his hold, and not feeling an ounce of guilt for punching him in the throat.

“You were screaming, what is it little Nutmeg, scared of the dark?” he said, flashing me a shit-eating grin.

“No,” I said indignantly, crossing my arms beneath my breasts and pinning him with an angry glare. Well, as angry as I could manage considering the arsehole had just woken me up.

“Yes, you were,” he said and narrowed his eyes on my face. “Oh, did you have a nightmare?” he asked, his tone still mocking, but there was something else laying beneath, something that sounded a little like concern.Surely not.

“Probably.” I said.

There was no point in lying. If I was screaming and I didn’t know about it there was a high chance that the nightmare’s had started to creep back in, I just thanked god that I couldn’t remember having it. I hated reliving mum’s death, but it was no surprise that that shit haunted me. I’d seen much worse now, but whenever I had that nightmare, I retreated back to being a scared 9-year-old, curled up on the floor, wishing my brother would come home and make it all go away.

I felt a sting behind my eyes, but blinked it away, I didn’t need to cry over them anymore. I just needed to get my revenge for Jason, just like I had for mum.

I focused back on Adonis who was standing in the doorway,as usual, in his black suit,as usual, watching me with a curious expression on his face. Not as usual.

“What?” I snapped.

“You fascinate me sometimes, you are so easy for me to read most of the time, but on a few occasions, I’ve found it hard to see what is going on inside your head.”

“Right,” I said, not sure what to say, why did he take such a strong interest in me? “So I guess you’re heading out?” I asked, gesturing to his pristine appearance.

“Yep, same shit, different day.” he said airily.

“Lucky you.” I said, not bothering to hide my jealousy, seeing as he could apparently read me most of the time anyway.

He hummed in agreement and headed out to Lorenzo’s bedroom. I hesitated for a moment then followed him out. He led the way down the stairs and into Lorenzo’s office. I stayed a few steps behind him, not wanting to seem as though I wanted to be close to him, because I didn’t.And the view from behind wasn’t too bad to look at. Wait. What?

He didn’t fully close the door behind himself as he entered the office, so I hovered by the door.

“Locking girls in wardrobes are we now Enzo? Were you hoping she might find her way to Narnia and bring you back a lion?” Adonis said and I moved closer to the door.

The way he spoke to our boss had me biting back a grin.Again, what?

“I’m not really a cat person.” Lorenzo said, sounding tired of the conversation already. “I take it you let her out? What state was she in when you found her?”

“Not a good one, how long has she been in there?”

“Oh, around seven hours.”

Well no wonder I was starving.

I felt my stomach tighten and almost turned away from the office to go in search of something simple to eat, but the next words I heard come from Lorenzo’s mouth stopped me.

“Just long enough to sort her damn attitude out so that she might actually come to bed with me tonight.”

“It didn’t look that way.” Adonis said.

“Ah, well she’s never been against me using force in the past.” Lorenzo said with a dark laugh.

My stomach tightened again, but this time not though hunger.
