“You shouldn’t be lifting me.” I said.

“It doesn’t hurt anymore, and I need a decent work out.” he said with a cheeky grin.

Toby had met me at the door in nothing but a towel, and I’d resisted him long enough to close the door behind us. The second it had clicked shut, I’d let my hands roam every inch of his body and he had made a big show out of dropping his towel.

“How long do you have?” he asked, and I gave him a sad look.

“Don says I can probably get away with twenty minutes.”

“Oh so my new bestie is on board with this?” he asked and began to trail kisses down my neck, causing me to moan softly.

“Apparently so.” I said and wriggled out of his arms, concerned that he might not be as capable as he thinks.

“Perfect,” he murmured and dragged me to the bed. “Although, I’m still curious about what you were going to say to me the other day.”

I fell backwards onto the bed, and he pinned me down, pressing his solid body against me.

“Nothing.” I said quickly and leaned up to kiss him. He held me down firmly and kept his face just out of reach.

“Go on, tell me.”

I wrinkled my nose: this didn’t feel like the right moment.

After we had been interrupted by Don, I had thought over what I was about to say to him and wondered if it would have even been the right thing to say. I was certain that I felt it, but what if he didn’t. I’d never said it before, I was a trainwreck when it came to this.

Yet somehow, I’d managed to land myself two incredible men who were perfect for me in completely opposite ways. I wondered if part of me felt like I shouldn’t say it because it would seem unfair on Don. We barely liked each other; it was a strange dynamic. But what I felt with Toby was simple. I could label it. And the way he treated me recently proved exactly how simple our life could be.

I closed my eyes and blurted the words, “I love you.”

Toby laughed.

“I’m sorry what?” he said, still laughing, “Did you just, with your eyes closed. How romantic.”

I opened one eye a crack and noticed his bewildered expression. I pursed my lips and forced myself to open my eyes.

“It’s weird for me.” I said.

“Try again.” he urged, and I found myself relaxing a fraction.

His warm hands flexed on my wrists, and I wriggled happily as I met his gaze and fell into the calming ocean of his eyes.

“I love you.”

His eyes sparkled and his mouth lifted into a shit-eating grin.

“Yeah, I know.” he said, and I thrashed in his hold, bucking my hips in an attempt to fight him.

“Is that all you’ve got? I taught you better than this.” he said, and I groaned.

“Dickhead.” I said weekly.

Toby chuckled and pressed his lips to mine. “I love you too Vixen.”

My heart soared. It literally flew out of my chest and into the sky. I had never felt more joy than in that moment. I wasn’t alone in this crazy, intense feeling. He loved me. Andthis guyunderstood what love was.

I wrapped my legs around his body and held him close. Toby pushed my arms together and smoothly locked my wrists in one hand. He stroked the other down the side of my face, trailing gently down my neck, across the swell of my breast, over my stomach and up my thigh. He pushed my skirt up until his fingers brushed against the fabric of my lace underwear and he hooked a finger inside.

“I love you.” he repeated before swiping his finger down my centre and moaning with satisfaction as he found me ready and wanting.
