Meg shoved her chopsticks into a half-eaten tub of rice, cleaned herself up a little with a napkin, and tucked her feet up under her.

“So,” She began, “I have news.”

“Yup.” I said through a mouthful of dumpling and circled my hand to urge her to go on.

“I’m getting married.”

I choked on a lump of pork and pounded my fist against my chest to dislodge it.

“What?” I gasped and she ran to the kitchen to grab me a bottle of water.

She sat back down with a light laugh, and I gulped down half of the bottle.

“Well, I won’t get to the ‘you may now kiss the bride’ part, but the wedding is going ahead. I have a brilliant plan, and I’ve managed to rope a few people on to my side just to ensure it runs smoothly. So, in less than two weeks I’ll walk down the aisle and all of our problems will go away.” she said, practically bouncing up and down.

“Right,” I said slowly, “Can’t you just kill him in his sleep like, tonight?” I asked. I knew what her response would be, but I still continued to suggest this.

“I want it to hurt. That would be too easy.” she said and rolled her eyes. “Do you want to know the plan?”

“Of course I do.” I said and tugged her under my arm, suddenly needing to be closer to her.

“Ok, but you can’t tell Donny.” she said and frowned up at me.

“Donny? Oh that’s cute, can I call him that?” I asked, running my fingers through her fiery curls.

“I think he might chop your balls off if you do.” she said, “You won’t tell him, right?” she urged.

“I won’t.” I said. But I wasn’t sure if I meant it.

“It really isn’t fair that you can sit there looking like that.” Meg complained as she came to straddle me.

I was still sitting on the sofa. She had gone down to her car to get somethingspecialthat she had for me. While she was gone I’d sat and mulled over what she had just told me. She had filled me in on her plan, and it was good, I was pretty sure she could pull it off, but something felt a little off about it. But I wasn’t the expert.

“Oh come on Vixen, have you looked in a mirror?”

“Yeah, but you, eugh, you’re something else. Anyway, do you want your surprise?” she asked and wriggled on my lap. I groaned at the friction, causing her to laugh and ground down.

“Is it hidden in your pants?” I asked.

“Nope.” she said, then ground down on me again.

“Vixen,” I said in mock warning.

“Pick a hand.” she said, holding them both behind her back.

“Left.” I said, playing along with her little game.

She showed me her left hand, it was empty. She pushed out her lower lip and gave me puppy-dog eyes.

“Sorry, you don’t get your surprise now.” she said.

“Yes, I do.”

I reached forward to grab her other arm, but she pulled back. I wrapped an arm around her, and she squirmed out of my grip, managing to escape me completely and dance across the room. I loved this playful side of her.

I leapt up and stalked over to her. She braced herself and rocked from foot to foot, preparing herself for my attack. I pounced, and she dodged out of my way, but I knew she would, and I quickly changed direction and captured her in my arms. She wriggled and laughed before I released her and she fell backwards onto the bed.
