Clive took the dress bag from me as I entered the foyer and he disappeared up the stairs. I hoped that he didn’t put it in my room, but I was sure Lorenzo wouldn’t have wanted it in the wardrobe in his room either.
I went down to the kitchen with the gift bag in my hand and a smile on my face. Anette was washing up as I walked in and quickly stopped and gave me a wide-eyed look.
“Miss Fields, if you need anything you don’t have to come in here, just call.” she said.
“Call me Meg, please,” I said for the hundredth time, I hated being called Miss Fields by the staff in this house. “I don’t need anything, I was just putting this in here, can I please have this one each day in the office while I work.”
I pulled the mug out of the bag and handed it to her. She smiled as she took it and dunked it straight into the soapy water. Eden had bought my mug from my old office to our shopping trip today, she had wanted to keep it in hopes that I’d come back, but even after I kill Lorenzo, I wasn’t sure I’d go back there. I wasn’t sure where I’d end up after it all.
“Of course Miss… Meg.” she corrected herself and I laughed lightly.
“Thank you, Anette, don’t work too hard.” I said jokingly.
“No promises” she said with a cheery smile before going back to her dishes.
I made my way back to the foyer and made a mental note to make sure Anette, and all of the other staff, didn’t end up struggling because of what I was going to do. There wasn’t a single one of them who deserved anything bad to happen to them. They were all good people. How did good people manage to end up working for this monster?
Lorenzo came out of his office with Don and Coop, and I grinned at the sight of my best friend.And a little at Don, not that I’d let on.
“I’ll be heading to The Crown, don’t fuck this up you two.” Lorenzo said then met my eye.
“Buonasera amore mio,” he said and closed in on me, pressing his lips to my cheek. “Did you find the one?”
“I did. But was it really necessary to have Michael escort me? He made Eden very uncomfortable.” I said, narrowing my eyes at him.
“Until you can be trusted, you will not leave the house alone, you know this. You should really be thankful that I let you go out in the first place.” he said with a growl. “I’m happy to hear that you found your dress though. We had a successful day too, didn’t we Adonis.”
Don looked up from his phone and nodded. His eyes met mine and I found a cold, hard wall in them.What the hell.
Coop glanced between us, then spoke up, clearly sensing the tension. “M, a client called while you were out, I took a message, it’s on the pad by the printer in the office.”
“Thanks Coop, I’ll go check that out now.” I said, giving him a smile of thanks for giving me an excuse to get away from these men.
I was fairly certain that there would be no message when I walked into the office, and I was right. I slumped down onto my chair with a heavy sigh and stretched out my neck. Lorenzo was going out, It seemed that Don was going on a job, so I’d have a little freedom this evening. I desperately needed to brush up on my combat skills now that I wasn’t training with Toby, and wondered if I’d be able to tear Coop away from the computer screens for a little session in the gym.
He walked in a few minutes later and I spun my chair around to face him.
“Coop,” I said in a singsong, angelic voice.
He smirked at me and leaned against his desk.
“Yes Sunshine.” he sang back.
“Wanna come down to the gym for a fight when the arsehole and myfiancégo out?” I grimaced at the word fiancé.
“I’ll be working.” he said sadly. “Although I am definitely tempted, it’s been a long time since I beat your ass.”
I barked a laugh, “As if you’ve ever done that. Come on Coop, play with me.” I pouted. Mimicking his usual way of trying to convince me to do things.
Our office door flew open, and Don came storming in.
Coop looked between us, and laughed, “Maybe he will play with you.”
Don threw him a warning look and Coop held his hands up with an innocent look on his face.
