I hadn’t told Eden what my plan was. On the few occasions that I’d seen her since my real identity came to light, she seemed to be overwhelmed by my life. I didn’t need to freak her out with murderous plots. Also, I didn’t completely trust her to not give anything away. She way loyal to a fault, but her poker face was shockingly shit.

“I better get back to Lukas,” She pointed at the table where her boyfriend was sitting. “Oooh, girl, tell me, are there any dangerous gang members at my table?”

I ran my gaze over the people at her table and grinned. Giorgio and Gina were sitting opposite Lukas.

“The guy opposite Luke, not a gang member, but he’s one scary motherfucker and the woman he’s with, she’s Lorenzo’s seconds sister, you know what that is right?”

Her eyes lit up, “Duh. I’m going to interrogate them for stories,” she said, “Seeing as you don’t tell me shit.”

Ok, maybe Eden was handling this better than I thought.

She flicked her hair and scampered back to her table, and I realised that the smile on my face wasn’t forced anymore. I turned to find my table and my smile widened as I noticed who was sitting beside the empty chair at the table. I sat down in my chair bedside Lorenzo and turned to Sal.

“You pulled the short straw then.” I teased.

“Hush M, getting to sit beside you is a pleasure. I’ve missed you la mia ragazza.” he said.

His accent was stronger than the last time I’d seen him. Moving back to his home country had thickened it and it was a warm, comforting sound. Sal had arrived yesterday, but I’d not had a chance to see him yet. Lorenzo had been dragging him around to various places. I was only aware of his arrival because Don had mentioned that they were going to pick up their suits.

“I’ve missed you too. I’m so glad you’re here.” I said.

He placed a hand down on top of mine and the skin around his eyes crinkled.

“I hear you’re no longer a Brother.” he said. “Why?”

“The lifestyle wasn’t for me anymore.” I lied.

Sal gave me a suspicious look and leaned in close to whisper so that only I could hear him.

“You’ll lead them far better than he is.” he said and pulled away, giving me a conspiratorial wink.

Did Sal somehow know my plan for the wedding? I smiled at him then turned my attention to Coop who was sitting across from me. I gave him an accusing look and he raised a brow in confusion.Don’t play dumb with me pretty boy.It must have been him. I couldn’t imagine Charon or Toby contacting the previous leader of The Brotherhood. I shouldn’t be mad though; Sal had every right to know what he’d be walking into tomorrow.

I sat and chatted with Sal throughout the first two courses. Then Lorenzo leaned in and informed me that it was rude of me to be focusing on one person and ignoring the rest of our guests. Sal gave me a boyish grin and turned his attention to Cooper, and I looked around the table for someone else to talk to.

My options were not good.

Don was sat on Lorenzo’s other side, and he met my eye with his dark gaze. I quickly crossed my legs as heat rushed between them at the intensity of his stare. Luckily for us, his ‘fuck me’ eyes were extremely similar to his ‘I want to kill you’ eyes.

I scowled at him, and he smirked. I’d be wiping that look off of his face later. Hopefully by sitting on it. If he came to visit my room later with a tall, hunky gift like I hoped, I’d be forcing him to stay.

I dragged my attention away from him and searched for a safe option. Grey and Deb were sat talking to Frank and Collette,no surprise there, and the two women tossed me dirty looks when they noticed that I was watching them. Beside Collette was Rebecca, she was swaying a little and slurring as she spoke at,not to, Michael. He looked miserable and I wondered if there was trouble in paradise.

I pursed my lips as I realised, I was out of options and looked up at Lorenzo.

“Maybe I should go and mingle.” I said.

“No, dessert will be here shortly, we will then have a drink, and then I expect you to go up to bed.” he said quietly and placed his hand on my leg.

I fought back my natural instinct to push him away or vomit and nodded as his hand slowly slid up my thigh. He paused halfway up and suddenly looked down at me.

“Why are you armed?” he whispered in shock.

“Are you telling me you aren’t?” I asked.

“Of course I am,” he said irritably. “But you don’t need to be.”

“Old habits.” I shrugged.
