He pushed his chair back enough so that when he leaned back, he could see under the table, and slipped his hand around my thigh. When he found the buckle of the holster he smiled and smoothly undid it and removed my blade.

“Break them.” he murmured and discretely passed my weapon to Don.

“Take this, it’s yours now.” he said to him, and I watched as Don’s brows lifted and he took the blade.

“You’re safe with me amore mio.” Lorenzo said as our desserts were placed in front of us. “You have nothing to worry about.”

Maybe not, but you do.

I stood in the hallway and watched the elevator doors close on Lorenzo’s smug face. He had escorted me to my floor and was now on his way back down to the bar to celebrate with The Brothers. Minus Coop and Don. Coop had excused himself just before I’d been sent to bed, playing on the fact that he had too many responsibilities tomorrow and needed a good night’s sleep. Don had disappeared with no explanation, no one had batted an eyelid at it. The Brothers had pinned him as an antisocial arsehole from the start.

When the doors finally closed and the light above them lit up in a downwards arrow, I released a long breath and rolled my shoulders. Playing nice was painful. I’d remained on my best behaviour throughout the rest of the meal and had successfully lulled Lorenzo into a false sense of security. On our journey up to my floor he had thanked and praised me, and I’d smiled serenely as though I might finally be falling into line.

I slipped my key card from my bra and slipped it into its slot. The light on the doorhandle turned from red to green and I pushed the door open. Raised voices came from inside my suite and as I opened the door, I found two men standing in the centre of the room playing tug of war with a remote.Mymen.

“What’s this?” I asked, stepping towards them as they continued to bicker.

They ignored me. So I raised my voice, “What’s going on?”

Don stopped tugging on the remote and turned his attention to me.

“Holy shit.” Toby gasped before Don could explain and he spun back around and shoved him in the chest.

“What?” Toby asked, “She looks incredible.” He gestured towards me.

“Iknowshe does, I’ve had to sit through that excruciating meal with her looking like that.” Don said with a groan.

“Are either of you going to answer me?” I asked, planting my hands on my hips and glowering at them. “Why are you arguing over a remote?”

“Donny is mad at me for changing his mood music.” Toby said with a boyish grin.

“Don’t call me Donny,” Adonis snapped, and my heart did some weird fluttery thing, I didn’t want them to fight, but the fact I was clearly the only one who got away with calling him that had me all kinds of happy.

“It’s not just that.” he said in a low, pissed off tone.

I looked at him for a long moment, but he didn’t elaborate so I turned my attention to Toby.

“The suspense is killing me Tobias, what did you do?” I asked.

“I wore the wrong shirt.” he confessed in a small voice. “He’s angry that I’m not wearing some fancy pants designer suit for our secret rendezvous.”

“You look like a fucking lumberjack.” Don snarled.

I laughed at the outraged look on his face and slowly ran my gaze down Toby’s body.

“You’ve seen him dressed like that before,” I said once I’d managed to get control of my laughter. “Anyway, he looks like a snack. A lumbersnack.”

I winked at Toby, and he puffed his chest out at the compliment. Don’s brows dropped low, and his expression darkened, clearly unamused by my comment.

“You look good too.” I said and stepped closer to him to run my fingers down the breast of his black suit jacket.

“That’s not the point.” Don said in a rough voice.

“What’s this really about?” I asked.
