Grey did as I said and pulled his phone out, no doubt to send a message to Deb to tell her he wouldn’t be doing whatever the hell she had demanded he do.

When the film finished Grey stood up and headed to the door, muttering something about going to find Adonis. I let him go and switched the tv off. Grey was great for the practical things, but sometimes I wished he was a little better at small talk, he was either deathly silent or ranting and bitching. No wonder Deb always looked so miserable.

Adonis came storming through the door no more than fifteen minutes later and I raised my brows at him.

“First thing I’m doing when I take over is getting rid of that pezzo di merda you call your second.” he snarled, his accent thick in his rage.

“Ifyou take over. I can’t stop you, but I would advise against it son. He’s a valuable asset.” I said, rising to my feet and heading towards the wardrobe where our suits had been hung.

“He’s a stronzo.”

I looked over my shoulder at him with an amused grin teasing my lips. “You have something in common.”

He scowled at me, but his expression shifted to a smirk as he leaned against the wall with his arms folded and watched me unzip the first garment bag and to reveal his suit.

“Emilio ha fatto un buon lavoro.” he praised and stepped forward to run his fingers down the front of the black and silver pinstripe fabric.

I unzipped my bag next and pulled my own suit out. I had selected the same fabric for the jackets and trousers, but where I’d be wearing a traditionally white shirt Adonis would wear black.

“Go dress.” I commanded and he grabbed the hanger and disappeared into the bathroom.

He came back into the main room as I was wrapping my tie around my neck, and I paused to assess him. He had slicked his short hair back neatly and when he buttoned his jacket I smiled. With his dark features and intimidating glare he looked like the perfect model of the terrifying gang leader I was moulding him into.

“I presume you’re armed?” he asked.

I flipped open my jacket to reveal my brand-new Beretta sitting in the black leather holster I’d had specially made for today. The date and our initials were embossed into the leather. I’d debated having one made for Megan too, but as I didn’t completely trust her yet, I had decided against it. If she earned my trust back then I’d have one made on our anniversary.

“And ammo?” he asked, and I frowned.

“Am I getting ambushed at my wedding Adonis?” I asked.

Why the hell would I need ammo. I had the gun with me mostly out of habit, and it was a smart thing to do. I wasn’t anticipating being attacked today. Even if I was, I’d have the entire Brotherhood in the church to handle anything.

“You have plenty of enemies Lorenzo. Anything could happen.” he said as he adjusted his tie and smoothed down his jacket.

“I’ll be fine.” I said with a smirk and gave the bulge at his hip a nod. I doubted that was the only weapon he had concealed. “I have you at my side.”

He met my gaze and a murderous look flashed in his eyes. I loved seeing that look. His bloodlust was like mine, insatiable.

I glanced at my watch.

“It’s time. Let’s go.”

Eden slipped the final pearl button through its loop on the back of my dress and squealed as she circled me. I stepped in front of the mirror and gasped. Claudette had listened to my vision for my hair and makeup today and shockingly had done exactly as I’d asked. She had grimaced at my lipstick choice – as I’d expected -, but it didn’t feel right for me to stray away from my signature colour on such an important day.

My hair was curled to perfection and styled half up. My eyes were smoked in grey and silver, and I swear my skin was actually glowing. I ran my fingers down the slit in the side of my dress and I smiled wickedly at my reflection. There were enough layers of floaty fabric to conceal the slit, no one would know it was there until I pulled a gun from my thigh and killed my groom.

“Can you please do me a huge favour?” I asked Eden.

She bounced in her silver heels and nodded, “Of course, what do you need?”

“I left my purse down in the restaurant last night, I’m worried if I don’t get it now, I might forget with all of the excitement of the weekend.” I lied.

“On it.” she said and disappeared in a blur of red satin and black curls.
