Deb was pummelling her fists against Greys chest with tears running down her face. He stood there taking it with a disinterested look on his face.

“You heartless bastard, how can you just stand there and let him do that?” she wailed.

Lorenzo walked through the chaos towards her.

“Oh do shut up Deb.” he said coldly. Then shot her in the head.

My mouth dropped open, and I stared at Grey in shock as his wife’s body fell forwards and he brushed her off onto the floor as though he was discarding a piece of trash, then pulled his handkerchief from his pocket and dabbed at the blood splatter that had hit his face. I wasn’t shocked by what Lorenzo had done, nothing about him could shock me anymore. But Grey had just watched his sister and wife die and not batted an eyelid. He might as well have turned around to Lorenzo and shook his hand for how he was reacting. Grey had turned out to be an even bigger piece of shit than I thought.

Lorenzo walked away from his second and I lost focus on the reason I was here. How the hell could Grey be so callous and cold?

I sat still, surveying the mess from my safe spot behind Adonis and blew out long steadying breaths. My leg was burning, and I needed to get past the pain.Come on adrenaline, kick in any time.

Grey got knocked backwards as a man came at him with brutal, precise punches. I recognised the man as one of The Wolves, and I watched as I eagerly anticipated Greys death. It didn’t come. Grey fought back, pulled a knife from his pocket and sliced it across the guy’s throat.

“You’re a dead man.” A familiar voice shouted across the church and Charon came charging towards Grey at full force. I knew I needed to get up, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from them. I’d never seen Charon in action andholy shitthat man was an animal. He tore through Greys shirt with his bare hands and slammed his fist into his face over and over until his knuckles were coated in blood and Grey was wobbling on the spot. Charon aimed one final blow at Greys face, but he buckled and bent at the waist before his fist connected.

“Dad!” I heard Toby cry out and Don moved away from me, leaving me exposed.

I tried to drag myself to my feet, but I still couldn’t quite get there.

Charon was on the floor, blood starting to pool around him as Grey stood swaying with a menacing smile on his face and his bloodstained knife in his hand. Don and Toby appeared before me again and I screamed at them until they gave in and helped me to my feet.

“I need to check on him.” Toby shouted, but Don gave him a hard glare.

“He told you what he wanted Toby. Leave him. Protect our girl.” he said, and I gasped.

“You planned this?” I asked, and they both looked at me in disbelief.

“Obviously.” Don said.

I clung to Toby for support and tried to balance on my own. I found my feet and breathed out slowly. I could handle this. I needed to get rid of Grey and then take down Lorenzo. Wherever the piece of shit was.

I took a step forward but as I did my heart leapt out of my chest. My best friend appeared, covered in blood and sweating profusely. Coop needed medical attention. Now.

He lunged pathetically at Grey, but that was all it took. One punch and Grey fell to the floor. Coop dove on top of Grey, peeled his knife out of his hand and plunged it into his chest over and over until the sound of my shouting hit him.

He looked up at me with his lips parted and his eyes unfocused, he was going to pass out. I shouted at Toby to let me go, but he refused, holding me tight as Don rushed over to Cooper, pulled him off of Grey’s lifeless body, and shouted for help.

Yvette came running into the church with a fierce look on her face and yelled behind her through the open door for more help. A couple of men came in after her, and together they dragged Cooper and Charon out of the church. Don came back to us and sent Toby out to be with this dad. Assuring him that we would be fine. I looked around at the bodies scattering the church. I was sure no one was alive until a slow clap sounded behind us and we span around to see Lorenzo rise up and step out from behind the altar.

“What a show.” he said. “This is definitely a wedding to remember. I’m impressed amore mio, and you too Adonis, you both had me fooled. Did you plan it together?” he asked, then shook his head. “No, of course not. This isn’t very well executed. I’m still standing.” He laughed and inspected his nails. “Looks like the two of you can’t put your stubbornness to one side and cooperate. What a shame. Well, I suppose we should finish up here and exchange our rings,” he said to me, then turned his gaze to Don. “And then I’ll probably have to kill you.” he said, tutting disappointedly.

“She isn’t marrying you.” A man said, and Clive stepped forward, standing at my other side.

I looked at him with a small smile, he didn’t have to support me like this, but here he stood. My smile dropped into a warning look though and I silently pleaded with him to run. He ignored me.

“Selene should never have married you, and Megan won’t make the same mistake. You’re a monster, and when I end you, I know you’ll end up in the deepest pit of hell.” Clive said with such conviction that I actually believed he might be a match for Lorenzo.

Don wrapped his arm around my waist and tugged me closer. He had removed his suit jacket somewhere along the way and the press of his spare gun caught my attention. It was tucked into the waistband of his trousers, and I knew when I needed it he wouldn’t stop me from taking it.

“I kept you around because you’re good at your job Clive, but your blatant obsession with my late wife has gone too far.” Lorenzo said.

“The wife you murdered,” Sal spat from behind us. “Why was that Lorenzo? Why did you kill my sister? Because of yourownlittle obsession with M wasn’t it. My sister died because she knew what you’d done to Jason and she was willing to tell M, even though she knew the danger she was putting herself in.”

“That’s quite a story Salvatore, you’re getting imaginative in your old age.” Lorenzo laughed and scratched his chin with the muzzle of his Beretta.

“It’s the truth though, and everyone standing here knows it.” Sal said, stepping forward.
