My entire world stopped turning as I heard those three words fall from her lips. She loved me. This intoxicating woman was giving me everything I never knew I wanted in those three simple words. I knew I… I wanted to... I…

“I-.” I whispered as I pulled away from her.

The words caught in my throat, and I cursed under my breath.Just say it idiota.

Meg released me, took a couple of unsteady steps backwards, and gave me a hard look before rolling her eyes and pushing her tongue into her cheek.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” she exploded. “You can face off with the most terrifying man I’ve ever met, but you can’t say three words to me? I can see in your eyes how you feel Adonis, but shit, it would be nice to hear it after what we just went through!”

“Nutme-.”

“No, don’t Nutmeg me. I am so angry with you, how dare you come in here, acting like a hero, dragging Toby along, clearly telling Sal and Clive about Selene, you went behind my back…” she trailed off as I began to laugh, and her brows shot up in outrage.

“What the-.”

“Shut the hell up.” I said, cutting her off. “You infuriating, impatient, incredibly annoying pain in the ass. If you’d just given me a second to form a coherent thought…” I paused and smirked at her expression.

Her eyes were wide and wild with anger, her mouth open in a perfect o, and her hands firmly planted on her hips.

“You wouldn’t be the woman I love.”

“Seriously?” She gawped at me, and I shook my head before advancing on her, and sweeping her up into my arms. She shrieked in mock protest but a heartbeat later her arms banded around my neck, and she kissed me.

“Ti amo baby.” I whispered against her lips as I pulled away. “I love you.”

“You better.” she growled.

“Lovebirds,” Yvette’s voice reached us from the doorway, and she shook her head at us kindly. “This display is very sweet in some messed up kind of way, but you should really be getting out of here.”

“Shit, of course.” Meg said and wriggled to get down.

“I’ve got you. Just relax. Please.” I said.

“Aw, you said please.” she said teasingly, her mood clearly improving. “Wait, I just need to-.”

She fidgeted with her hands behind my head then a moment later she held her engagement ring in front of my face.

“I won’t be needing this.” she said, then looked down at the dead body by the altar with a disgusted sneer.

She twisted the ring around in her fingers a couple of times, then tossed it down onto his chest as a satisfied grin spread over her face. She was so fucking strong, how the hell had I ever seen her as anything less?

I held her closer and made my way to the door where Yvette was still standing. She had a serious look on her face that was all business.

“I’ll take care of everything here, just go.” she said and pulled her phone out.

“No, it’s our mess.” I protested but she gave me a stern motherly look that brooked no argument.

“Thank you for getting everyone out, is Ron ok? And Toby, where’s Toby?” Meg asked. “And Coop?Fuck, please tell me they are all ok.” she said, panic rising in her voice. This didn’t seem good.

“Toby is fine, barely a scratch on the lucky sod, Cooper has seen better days but is refusing to go anywhere without you two.” Yvette said with a roll of her eyes. “One of the Brothers made it, but he disappeared. Your friend, the girl, she got out, and is currently sitting in the back of one of our pickups having a stiff drink with the priest.”

“Eve,” Meg pushed.

She had avoided mentioning Charon. When he was dragged from the church by a couple of his wolves, things did not look promising.

Yvette swallowed thickly and blinked hard, “It doesn’t look good. He’s just arrived at the hospital.”

“Go, be with him.” Meg said frantically.
