“I’ll go order then.” he said and disappeared again.

Toby stood up, looked at the door and then gave me a worried look.

“Do you think he’ll order dumplings?” he asked.

I barked a laugh, “I hope so, go and make sure he does, and make sure he orders enough for Coop too, I’ll wake him.”

He left me alone with my sleeping friend and I shuffled across the bed towards him. While I had been sleeping someone had removed my cannula and I was finally free from the I.V. Which I guess meant I was fit enough to move.

“Coop.” I whispered in his ear, and he groaned and flung his arm in the air, swatting at me.

“Fuck.”he said through gritted teeth. “That hurts, why the fuck does that hurt?”

He opened his eyes and frowned at me.

“It’s probably an extension of your injuries. Did you get stabbed in the ribs? What happened?” I asked.

I realised I had no idea what had actually happened to Coop, only that what I’d seen was a terrifying mess.

“Yes, Grey stabbed me as I was about to reach for my gun. He was faster than I was, like he already knew what we had planned, he pushed me to the floor, and threw himself at you.” Cooper said. “Fucking arsehole.”

“Yes, Captain Dickface.” Don said, appearing in the doorway.

“Not you.” Coop muttered and attempted to sit up.

“Don’t be an idiot.” I said, stopping him from moving any further with a gentle hand on his shoulder.

“That was quick.” I said to Don.

He folded his arms as he leaned on the door frame. His inked biceps straining the fabric of the tight-fitting black t-shirt that he was wearing, and I found myself forcing myself not to drool.

Time and place Meg.

“Toby took over.”

“Am I going to be ok?” Cooper asked, drawing my attention away from Don’s arms.

“I-.” I paused and looked at Don. “Shit, I don’t know. Don, do you know anything? Please tell me you’ve been paying attention while we’ve been out of it?”

Coop mirrored my concerned look and Don rolled his eyes at us both.

“Of course I have.” he said irritably, then stepped into the room properly, pulled a chair over to the side of the bed where Cooper was laying, sat down, and began to explain each injury that each of us had sustained.

It turned out that I had been extremely lucky to make it out with such a clean and simple bullet wound, But Coop had come out far worse and it had been hit and miss while Doc was patching him up. The fact that he was awake, and coherent was an amazing sign, but he would be bed bound for a while. Don’s injuries were all surface level, and Toby had managed to walk away with three measly bruises.

“Anyway, you should be sleeping.” Don said to Coop with a disapproving frown and they both looked at me.

“Sorry,” I muttered. “I thought you might be hungry though.”

“I’m not sure I can stomach anything yet. Water would be good though, and a decent pillow. I thought Lorenzo was loaded, why the hell is this pillow so shit?” Cooper said and I laughed under my breath.

Don went upstairs to find a better pillow and I snuggled into Coopers side, careful not to hurt him. Toby came back into the room and settled himself on my other side and began to stroke his fingers up and down my back.

“Is it bad that I think your dress looks better like this?” he asked quietly.

Cooper laughed then groaned. “Looks like your boyfriend’s have been rubbing off on each other.”

I tensed at the word boyfriends. Toby noticed and chuckled softly.
