“I’d prefer it if you just said yes, rather than making things so difficult.”

He dropped one arm and pulled his phone from his pocket. I didn’t move though; I wasn’t going to fall into that trap.

“But of course, I know you, I know that behaving like this is just natural for you, for now, so I prepared for it.” A hint of a smirk touched his lips and his eyes flicked to his phone then back to me.

“All I have to do is press this button.” He showed the screen of his phone to me, his thumb hovering over the send button of a text message, but I didn’t manage to read it before he twisted the screen out of my view. “And someone you care about will die.”

My jaw clenched, “Who?”

“Gina.” he said simply and cocked his head as he waited for my reaction.

I shoved his shoulder and barked a laugh, making a move to walk off.Yeah right.

I made it two steps away before he spoke again.

“Where the fuck do you think you are going?” he snarled.

I spun around to face him, “Gina? You won’t kill Gina, she’s practically family. Grey will kill you if you touch his sister and you know it. You’re bluffing.” I said smugly and turned again.

The sound of his laughter stopped me though. It was ice cold and sent a trickle of fear through my entire body.

“I killed your brother, and I’m still here.”

I slowly turned to face him again, my eyes wide and my fists clenched.

“I killed my wife and kept that a secret from everyone, including her son. Her brother even found the body and has no idea who did it. Grey would never know, and if he did do you really think he’d do anything tome?I’m hurt honestly amore, that you would underestimate me like this.”

My fists were clenching and releasing, and without realising what I was doing I began to pace up and down the pavement before him.

“This is different, they were obstacles, that’s what you said,” I spoke, mostly to myself, “Gina isn’t an obstacle, she’s nothing to do with us,” the word ‘us’ made my throat burn, but I continued, “No, you’re bluffing.”

He tutted and crossed his arms. His posture was relaxed, and his words came out so causally.

“She’s on a date, with Giorgio, and as you well know, Giorgio will do anything for the right price. So I highly recommend you make a good choice, and quickly.”

I screamed. No words came out at first, just noise as I lunged for him, but pulled myself back before I made contact with him. Attacking him was not a good idea. Not unplanned like this.

“You motherfucking, piece of shit, goddamn son of a bitch.” I yelled.

He was genuinely going to kill again to have me. He had threatened so many lives already, Gina’s included, but I’d brushed hers off as an empty threat because of who she was to Grey. But he’d lured her into the arms of a man who had no loyalty to anyone. He would do it. And I didn’t doubt that Lorenzo would be paying him far more than his usual rate.

Lorenzo unfolded his arms, looked down at his phone, and began tapping the screen. My stomach clenched, and words fell out of my mouth.

“Ok, I’ll do it.”

He looked up and slowly closed the small gap between us. His arms spread open, and he pulled me close, his hand twisting into my hair and tugging my head to one side and let his lips brush my ear.

“Too late.” he whispered.

My eyes widened in shock and my heart pounded heavier in my chest. What? No.My mouth went dry as my lips parted, and I pulled back to search his face.

He released me and I was met with a triumphant look. His eyes sparkled as he took in my shocked expression and guided me across to the entrance to The Crown.

Fuck.I was a fucking idiot. If I’d said yes quickly instead of cursing him out, this wouldn’t have happened. Gina is gone, because of me. Because I let my anger take control. A woman,a really really nice woman, is dead because my psychotic boss is obsessed with me and can’t handle not getting his own way. But he did get his own way, just a moment too late.

Just before Lorenzo reached for the door he paused and pushed something into my hand. I looked down and found that he had handed me a ring. A stupidly extravagant ring. The band was gold, and on top sat a ridiculously large princess cut diamond. I hated it. Not even because it was from him. It just wasn’t me at all.

“Put it on, and smile.” he murmured then pushed open the door.
