“Carry on like this and there will be no one left to keep safe. I keep my promises, I hope you do too.”

He looked down at my hand where the giant diamond was weighing down my finger and I scowled. I managed to bite my tongue. I had no idea how to play him right now, I needed to get home, hide away in my room, and think.Well, plot.

I turned my attention to the window, and he hummed with satisfaction as he started the engine and we roared away into the night.

When we pulled up in the garage of the house Lorenzo got out before me and smiled over the roof of the car at me.

“Tomorrow morning thewholeworld will know that you’re mine.”

I looked away from him and nodded slowly. There was nothing I could say, I wasn’t his, but to the outside world it would look that way.

He walked through the door that led into the house and I followed behind him, hoping and praying that this was the last interaction I’d have to endure and that I could go and lock myself away.

As we reached the foyer the sound of footsteps came rushing down the hall and a moment later Cooper was stood before us.

“Adonis.” he panted, “Something happened, I don’t know, I can’t find him. Boss what do I do?”

Panic was etched into the lines of his face, and I found myself suddenly tense. The urge to run up the stairs and quickly throw on something more suitable and head out into the night to find him was almost too much. But it wasn’t my problem.

“Footage?” Lorenzo asked.

“Emailed to you.” Cooper replied.

“I’ll deal with it.” Lorenzo said and stormed towards his office.

I followed him on instinct, and he spun around as his hand landed on the door handle.

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” he snarled.

“I-.” I said, but I had no answer.

I wasn’t a Brother. The man who I saw as my rival was in danger, but I had no legitimate reason to enter Lorenzo’s office. My place had changed.

“This is nothing to do with you. Fuck off.” he said in a low voice as he opened the door then slammed it in my face.

I turned on the spot, unable to step away from the door. Why was this bothering me so much?

“Sunshine, come on.” Cooper whispered to me and came forward to tug me away from the door. “I’ll sneak you in.” he said and hurried me down toward our office.

Once we were inside, he switched on a monitor and shoved me down into the chair in front of it.

“Why are you-.” I began.

“Seriously, stop. Don’t act like you don’t care. Just watch.” Cooper said to me gently and pressed play on a recording.

It was only a short recording, but it showed Adonis being ambushed by what looked like around twenty guys after he had taken out the man he had been sent after. I recognised the guy he had killed as Julian, one of the Brothers. He was lower level, but a Brother nonetheless. As a fight broke out it was hard to tell if Adonis was ok, I kept seeing flashes on him and each time my shoulders relaxed a fraction. But then someone pounced, took him to the floor and held a gun on him, in the next moment another man appeared in front of the camera. His eyes locked on mine through the screen, and it turned black.

“Julian, we, what? He? Where is the rest?” I asked. Unable to form a coherent sentence.

“Julian has been working for The Sinners since they re-formed, Adonis was sent on a kill order. Those men, they were all new initiates, we had no idea this would happen, it was planned out so well. As for the rest, that guy disabled the camera, I can’t get it live, or any others in that area.” Cooper explained as he chewed on the skin around his fingernail.

“The fucking what?” I snarled.

I’d taken down The Sinners years ago with Jase and Coop at my side, why the fuck had no one told me they had reformed.

“Who the fuck decided to start that shit up?”

“Apparently Carl had a son, and now he wants revenge for what you did to his dad.”
