I hated this feeling, the lack of control that I had over this situation. Should I just go out there? Go to the location and see what the hell had gone down. I didn’t get my hands dirty very often anymore. I would have to during business meetings from time to time, how else would I keep up the image that I’d spent so long perfecting, but I always held control. The last thing I needed when I was so close to my goal was to end up dead. But no one would expect me to go out there, no one would be waiting. Those men would have done what they needed to and gone straight back to their clubhouse.

I sat back down and grabbed my phone, there had been no calls or messages from Don since I’d last tried to get hold of him. I pulled up Coopers number and sent him a message to arm himself and meet me in the foyer. I could kill two birds this way. We could go out, see for ourselves what had happened, and I could find out what was going on with my Brother, and maybe get a read on whether he would be willing to take over if, well, if Don was dead.

I pulled my jacket on but didn’t button it. I’d need easy access to my gun if we found anyone waiting where Don was last seen. I wouldn’t bother adding any other weapons to my body tonight. If we got attacked, I’d get great pleasure out of using my hands. A small part of me hoped that we were, mio amore had been pushing too much recently, especially today, and I needed a release. If I couldn’t get it out there, I’d have to get it at home later and I knew an extreme workout wouldn’t suffice. I needed death or sex to calm me tonight.

“You can drive.” I said to Cooper as I met him by the front door.

He heaved a large duffel bag over his shoulder and took the lead.

“Any ideas what we’re going to find when we get there?” he asked as we headed towards his car. He opened the boot and threw the bag inside, unzipped it, and tossed a box to me.

“Just in case.”

He smiled at me, and I pocketed the box. I knew that my gun was fully loaded, but having extra ammo was never a bad idea.

“Hopefully a bloodbath,” I said as we climbed into the Audi. “And hopefully none of the bodies are his.”

Cooper started the engine and sped down my long driveway.

“I hope he handled them all.” he muttered, and I glanced across at him.

“Why?” I asked.

He sighed heavily, “Because they need to be eliminated, again.”

“True, but I get the feeling that you don’t want that just because another gang in town would be a problem.”

“I’m taking it a little personally.” he admitted, and his jaw clenched.

“Because of her?” I asked.

I’d been suspicious for a while now that my woman had something going on with her so called best friend.

“No,” he lied, it was an obvious lie too, the way his nostrils flared was a dead giveaway.

“Because I was on that team, remember? Me, her and Jase were the ones who took them out in the first place. It’s a bit of a kick in the teeth to have them reappear.” There was a truth to his words, but I was still pissed at him for not admitting that she was part of the reason.

I took a moment to think, I couldn’t push him right now, not until I knew what direction I needed him to go in.

“These aren’t the same men.” I said in what I hoped was a reassuring tone. I had no idea what else to say to him though, so I changed the subject.

“What’s going on with you C?” I asked.

“Huh?” he frowned.

“You’ve been off for weeks, and it’s not just because you’ve been taking the brunt of my anger.” I said, but I wasn’t apologising. I didn’t apologise for shit.

“It’s nothing.” he said, and I watched as his eyes shuttered and he locked down his emotions.Shit, he was good.

“Fine, I’ll get it out of M instead.” I said, hoping this was the right button to push.

“She doesn’t know.” he said, and I could sense the total honesty in his words.

“Well, if you don’t trust her with it, maybe your friendship isn’t as solid as I thought.” I said with a smirk.

He didn’t respond, and I mulled over this information. He had a secret. Amore mio doesn’t like secrets. I might have just found a way to push them apart if I needed to. I best lock that in my internal bank.

We pulled up beside a gap in the wire fence that surrounded the warehouse where we had last seen Adonis alive. I stepped out of the car first and Cooper grabbed more supplies from the duffel.
