“Cross my heart,” he said and grabbed me by the waist as I attempted to pass him in the doorway. “A kiss before you go il mio tesoro.”

He leaned in close to my face and I reluctantly offered him my cheek. He pressed his lips to my skin, and I felt the urge to smother my face in bleach. He smiled against my cheek, and I tensed with anticipation. In one swift motion he grasped my chin between his fingers and twisted my face sharply, his fingers slid up to hold my cheeks and his lips pressed to mine. I tried to pull away, but he dug his fingers in and laughed against my mouth before pushing his tongue against my lips. I held my mouth firmly closed, but that didn’t deter him, instead he just licked the centre of my mouth over and over. We stayed that way for far too long and my stomach began to churn.

Eventually he released me, and I supressed the desire to slap him as I turned away and stormed out of my office.Fuck the bleach facial, I need a bleach cocktail.

“Love you.” he called after me and I flinched. That man didn’t know the meaning of the words. I may not have been an expert, but what he felt, it was not love.

I raised my middle finger over my head towards him as I slowed my pace and attempted to bring my usual sassy self to the surface. I put more sway into my walk, treading a thin line between seductive and confident aggression. The last thing I heard as the front door closed behind me was Lorenzo’s laughter, and I questioned how I’d ever began to fall for such a cruel, heartless monster.Oh yeah, I was an idiot who went against her instincts. Never again.

I sat down in the window seat of the café where Eden had asked to meet me.Yep, I was actually telling the truth about meeting her.I had nothing to hide, well, not right now anyway. I’d already decided to visit Toby when I was done here, as long as it was Cooper or Adonis watching me.

I pulled my phone out and sent a message to Don. I’d not seen him at the house at all this morning, so it could be him, and if it wasn’t, he might know who it was. It seemed that Lorenzo was still priming him to take over The Brotherhood. I was glad of that, having Lorenzo trusting Don benefitted me greatly, and I was becoming more and more impressed with Don as each day passed. Where I was unable to hold my mask in place from one day to the next, Don had managed to hide his hatred and essentially lie to him. Lorenzo had no idea that I’d told Don.Wait, Lorenzo has no idea, he, he thinks Don doesn’t know.Did I just find my own little threat? I’d have to remember that.

Don replied quickly and I smiled at the message.

Adonis

Not me, wish it was though. L left me in charge of arranging it though, Cooper is in the restaurant across the street.

What are you wearing?

If Lorenzo had asked Don to handle this, he must trust him more than I thought. I tapped back a reply.

Meg

Thank you. Going to see T after, can you cover that?

I’m not telling you that.

I grinned as I pressed send and looked up to find a stunning woman dressed head to toe in pink standing before me.

“Girl, Who’s got you smiling like that?” Eden said with a wink as she leaned down to hug me before sitting in the chair opposite me. “Is it that gorgeous fiancé of yours?”

“Erm,” I hesitated, “Sure.”

Her eyed widened and no doubt her brows had lifted beneath her dark bangs. “Liar.” she accused, and I shook my head.

“No, no it was, I just don’t really want to talk about it, what’s going on with you?” I redirected her.

But she wasn’t having any of it, “Nothing, same old, don’t avoid the subject. Girl, you are gettingmarried, and to Lorenzo D’Angelo, I’m shook, he’s so fucking dreamy, I should be so angry with you for hiding that and the whole fake name shit, but honestly, I can see why you did it, you hit the jackpot babe!” she gushed, and I forced a smile to my face.

“Yeah, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have lied to you, and I should have met up with you sooner, I’m an awful friend.” I said.

“If I had that man, I’d change my name and disappear off of the face of the earth too, I do not hold that against you. Now tell me, how did it all happen? Was it as romantic as I think it was? Of course it was, he’s Italian, they practically breathe romance.” she went on in her usual overenthusiastic way and I realised that my smile was genuine. I missed this girl.

“So romantic,” I said, although it was pretty funny when I thought about it, the two Italians in my life were the furthest from romantic I could imagine, “and look at this ring.” I held my hand out to her, knowing I could distract her from my lack of story with the huge diamond.

She squealed and dragged my hand across the table, twisting it around to admire how the light caught on the giant rock.

“Holy shit, that is incredible, you’re so lucky.” she said, and I pulled my hand gently out of her grip.

“So are you, you have a man who loves you too.” I said.

“Yeah, but he didn’t propose after what, a few months?” she said, her eyes narrowing and scanning down my body, “Oh no, is this a shotgun wedding?”

I laughed, sounding a little manic. “Fuck no! I’m on birth control.” I said.
