Even if she only did it for protection, I’d take it. She had fallen for me once; she could do it again.

“Fine. Let’s plan a wedding.” she said simply.

My shoulders sagged slightly, and I felt a rush of tension leaving my body. It wasn’t perfect, not even close, but it was something, a tiny step in the right direction. Her motive may be all wrong, but she was giving in.

I tugged on her chin and lowered my lips to hers. She pushed me away, and I allowed it, because in time she would stop. And she was promising me all the time in the world.

I saidyes.Ok, well I’d said yes a few times now. I was beginning to confuse myself with how often I changed my plans. But I was certain that I was going to stick to this one. I would walk down the aisle, and Lorenzo would meet his end.

I sat down in the dining room with Lorenzo after my shower. I wasn’tactuallysweaty. as Don hadn’t given me long enough to work up a sweat. When I’d heard them pull back into the garage, thanks to Don revving his engine as he waited for the door to slide open, I had grabbed a bottle of water and strategically dampened my skin to mimic sweat. Luckily Lorenzo was so angry he didn’t notice the difference. Not that it mattered, I’d have just told him that I got too hot and threw water over myself to cool down. Sometimes a simple lie is the best lie.

“I’ve found us a planner, she can meet with us next week, so let’s prepare to make this run smoothly.” Lorenzo said and pulled out a notepad and pen.

I sat up straight, treating this like a business meeting.

“That won’t work for me.” I said. “We will plan it just the two of us.”

He raised a brow at me, “Why?”

Really? This is the part that he questions, not my sudden acceptance of my situation?

“Because I don’t want it getting out of hand. I want simple, and if you want me to continue to agree to this, you’ll do this my way.” I said.

I’d spent my shower building up the balls to take control of this situation. After Don’s little pep talk, I was feeling more like myself. I knew what he was doing, and I couldn’t even attempt to be mad about it, playing on my competitive side was a very clever move. I had a plan, and this was step one. It would have to go my way, otherwise I’d fail, and that wasn’t an option.

Lorenzo looked like I’d slapped him as he surveyed me. He quickly composed himself and pushed the pad and pen across the table to me.

“Fine, so long as you come down that aisle and say your vows, I’ll play it your way.”

I picked up the pen and jotted down a few notes before asking him some dull questions to make it seem like I cared even a tiny bit.

“I was thinking roses, pale pink?” I asked.

“Yes, and your bridesmaids will wear the same colour dress.” he said with a satisfied smile.

“Bridesmaid, singular. I want a small wedding, Lorenzo.” I said, looking up to meet his eye. He blinked once then nodded.

“I’ll call Eden and get her measurements, who will you have at your side, Grey? Adonis? Sal? I’ll call and invite him either way.” I said and tapped the pen on the table as I waited.

Lorenzo leaned back in his chair and unbuttoned his jacket to get more comfortable.

“Don. It’ll be symbolic.”

I frowned at him, and he smirked before elaborating, “Beginnings and endings. Our beginning, the end of my leadership, his beginning, very fitting.”

“So you’re retiring on our wedding day?” I asked.

“Yes. I believe I will, so long as he’s ready.” he said with a wide smile, like he was offering me the greatest gift.

“Well you better get Adonis whipped into shape quickly then, because you have two weeks.” I scribbled down the date and passed him the notepad.

“Why so soon?” he asked, glancing down at the notes I’d written.

“Does it matter?” I said, smiling and inspecting my nails.
