“I’ll just… go make some coffee.” he said, eyeing us suspiciously before squeezing past Don to leave the office.

Don pressed his hands down on the arm rests of my chair, caging me in and leaning in so close I could almost taste the rage on his lips.

“What’s up babe?” I asked with a smile.

“Don’t,” he snapped, “You bought adress.”

“Yes, I did. And you’re angry about this because?” I dragged out the last word and he inhaled slowly and tilted his head back to look down his nose at me.

“Because you’re actually going through with it.” he said in a low voice.

“I’m walking down the aisle yes, and I’ll be wearing a wedding dress, it would look pretty suspicious if I didn’t.” I said, straightening up in the small space between us to stop him from looking down at me.

“So you’re going to marry him, what the hell Megan.” he shouted.

“Lower your damn voice.” I whispered.

“He’s already gone out, and I honestly do not care who hears me right now, you cannot marry him. What about me? What about Toby?” he said. His voice broke, but the fury remained in his eyes.

My heart sank at his words. Surely he knew that I wasn’t going to go ahead with it.

“You know it’s all an act. You know I’m going to kill him.” I said.

“I don’t care if it’s an act, do you know how much it’ll hurt to watch you walk down that aisle. I hoped you’d do whatever you’re planning before the wedding, not after.” he said, calming down a fraction.

“Maybe I’m going to do it during.” I said smugly. Then cursed myself for letting on that I had a plan for the big day.

I’d told Toby, and Charon, and Coop, but I’d avoided letting Don know anything. I didn’t want him to get involved and steal away what was rightfully mine. Although now I was beginning to worry that he might beat me to it and do it before the wedding.

Don stood up and scrubbed his hand over his shortly cropped hair and groaned.

“I know you don’t want him. I just hate that you’ve got a dress, it feels wrong.” he said.

“You got a suit and agreed to be his best man. You do not get to stand there and tell me it feels wrong.” I snapped, suddenly annoyed by his outburst.

“That isn’t the same.” he protested.

I stood up and pressed my chest against his, tilting my head up and giving him a stern look.

“It’s exactly the same, if anything its worse, because no one dies if you say no. I have a good reason to put on a show, you don’t.” I said coldly.

“I’m doing it to prot-.” he shouted.

“No.” I yelled over him and pushed his chest. “You have no good reason Adonis. So whatever stupid excuse you have, I don’t want to hear it.”

I was vaguely aware that I was throwing all of my pent-up anger at him, but I couldn’t stop myself. I shoved him again and he growled deep in his throat. He didn’t argue back any more though. Instead he grasped my chin, kissed me ferociously, then pushed me back down into my chair and stormed out of the room.

Cooper came walking back in with two cups of coffee. He placed one on the desk beside me and fixed me with a hard stare.

“What the fuck was that.” he exclaimed, putting down his own mug and placing his hands on his hips.

“He started it.” I said, folding my arms and glaring up at him.

“You know better than to piss someone off before they go out on a job. I hope he doesn't screw this up.” he said and softened as worry settled over him.

“Shit,”I murmured. I hadn't even considered what arguing with him might do, instead I just let loose on him because if anyone can take it it's him. But what if I've just put him in danger. What if I’d completely messed with his focus?

“It will be fine,” I said, but I wasn't completely convinced. “We argue all the time and nothing bad has happened yet. It's fine.”
