The older woman shook her head firmly. “When Ron falls, I pick up the pieces. He has some of his men with him, I’ll handle business. Now do as you’re told and get out of here, you both need medical attention.”

I looked down at Meg and she glanced at her leg and pursed her lips.

“Fine. But you’re calling me the second you’re done here.” she said, and I took that as my cue to get us the hell out of there.

I ran with Meg in my arms towards Toby’s truck. He was sitting in the driver’s seat with his forehead on the steering wheel. I pulled the closest door open and dropped Meg onto the passenger seat and buckled her seatbelt.

“You don’t have to do that.” she said.

“You made it.” Toby gasped, lifting his head and reaching out to take her hand. “Holy shit, it’s done?”

“It’s done.” she confirmed, and he threw me a relieved smile. “Get in, Cooper, can you move?” he called over his shoulder and Cooper groaned from the back seat.

I closed the passenger door and opened the back to find him laying across all three seats and making a bloody great mess all over them.

“Move over Captain Dickface.” I said, but he just groaned at me.

I cursed then lifted his legs and slid in underneath them, placing them on my lap and huffing as he attempted to apologise. I shouldn’t be so hard on him, he wasn’t a bad guy at all, he had done everything to protect our girl, and he was in awful shape because of it.

“I’ll call the doctor. Get him to come to…” I trailed off. “Where are we going?”

“My apartment still has fire damage, and yours is too small for all of us.” Meg said, “But the house will be empty.”

She twisted a little in her seat and gave me with a questioning look.

“The house it is.” I said. “I’ll call him now.”

Toby turned to face me too now and frowned. “I’m pretty sure you all need a hospital.”

“The Brotherhood has a doctor who does house calls, we can’t go to the hospital every single time someone gets stabbed or takes a bullet to the leg. So we have Doc. Highly illegal, but handy.” Meg explained.

Toby’s eyes widened and he blew out a long breath.

“I feel so… sheltered.” he muttered, and we all laughed. Even Cooper. Although he did look extremely close to passing out again.

“Let’s go.” I said. “Before someone ends up unconscious.”

Nutmeg made a sound of agreement, “Place your bets boys, who’s gonna pass out first, me or Coop?”

“Coop 100%” I said, but Toby shot me a concerned look.

Meg laughed headily and I realised why he was looking at me like that. I was right to think that her panic a few minutes ago was a bad sign, she was rapidly coming down from her adrenaline rush.

I nodded at him and mouthed at him to hurry. Then pressed call on the doctor’s number.

Adonis jumped out of my truck as we reached the huge gate that led to Lorenzo’s house and a car pulled up behind us. He nodded to the driver and went over to a keypad and punched in the gate code then climbed into the back. Thank god we were hidden away up here. All of us were covered in blood, which would definitely turn a few heads in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. The gates opened slowly. Why did rich fuckers always have such slow-moving gates? If I lived here, I’d want to be able to get in and out quickly. It just didn’t make sense to me.

I tapped impatiently on the steering wheel until there was enough space for me to drive through, and I sped the rest of the way up to the house. I braked hard as I reached the front door, not giving a shit about parking up properly, and flung my door open.

Meg was slumped in her seat with her eyes flickering open and shut. I reached her door at the same moment Adonis did and I met his worried gaze.Shit, if he’s worrying it must be bad.

A man climbed out of the second car with a large box in hand and called for one of us to help him. Adonis squeezed my shoulder and went over to the guy who I guessed was the doctor. He opened the guy’s trunk and pulled out bags that I presumed were full of medical supplies and rushed to the front door, slamming his foot against it repeatedly until a terrified looking woman appeared on the threshold.

“Mr Knight,” she gasped. “What’s going on.”
