“The pregnant one’s mine,” Talon said, his pride obvious.

Maker nodded, and Gate noticed the flair of heat in his eyes when he looked at Lizzie, and Gate wondered if the man wanted that kind of beauty for himself. And since he happened to know that Maker was smart as fuck, he figured the man did.

Gate continued filling in the gaps, “The other two are working with Anna to bring Freemont down, and that shit has gotten tangled.”

Maker nodded, “Everything he touches seems to.”

At a gesture from Stash, Gate went on, “They’re ready.”

Talon left to hit the bar for another cup of coffee.

Gate paused and then turned to Maker, “We’re about to see some heavy shit. Some of it directly affects your girl. Can she handle it?”

Maker nodded, “Yeah.” He glanced her way and then back to Gate, “I know she looks sweet and innocent, but she’s strong too.”

“She’s gonna have to be,” Gate observed.

Maker sighed, “She watched me hunt.”

“Oh,” Gate said, scrubbing a hand across the scruff on his cheek. Coming from Maker, this was beyond serious. “And she hung in?”

“She’s still here,” Maker said.

“She the one?” Gate asked.

“Not sure she understands that yet, but I’m not letting her go.”

Gate nodded. If anyone got where Maker was coming from, he did. “Alright. Let’s do this.”

Anna

Once I introduced Lizzie around the table, Brent pulled up another chair and she joined us for what had to be the most unconventional meeting in MC history.

“You need anything? Coffee? Breakfast?” Jenna asked.

“I don’t think I could eat anything,” Lizzie answered, her eyes taking in the common room and all the brothers that filled it.

“You ever hung around the club with Maker?” I asked

Lizzie shook her head, “He just comes to the diner where I work.”

Jenna sent me big eyes, so I kept going. “He must feel very protective of you to bring you here,” I fished.

“We understand each other,” Lizzie replied, without turning to me.

“Well, honey, that puts you ahead of the game,” Claire hmphed and crossed her arms over her chest.

That brought Lizzie’s attention around. “Understand is probably the wrong word,” she said. “Maybeacceptis better.”

I looked to the front of the room where Maker stood with Gate, Talon, Ryder, and Deuce.

All of those men were big, all of them were strong, and all of them were appealing in some kind of way.

But Maker was the scariest bastard I’d ever seen.

And then his eyes flipped up and found Lizzie across the room, and his expression shifted, so fast that if I hadn’t been looking at him, I would have missed it, and that one moment held all the scorching heat of a nuclear blast before he shuttered his expression and turned his attention back to the meeting at hand
