“He sawyou,” Nine pointed out.

I swallowed, “What does that mean for us?”

“Means it’s show time,” Nine said, leading me toward the entrance to the ballroom.

Chapter Forty-One

You Promised Me a Massage

Nine

“You know what they called me in the military?” Nine asked Anna as they walked through the double doors of the ballroom.

Chandeliers cast a dim glow over the room, and the gilt ceiling and walls reflected the light. Black velvet sectioned off various spaces that were set up with different genres of play. Several couples were already taking advantage of the provisions, and little knots of spectators ebbed and flowed like the tide.

Nine led Anna toward a space sectioned off on the back wall where he clocked a large eye hook suspended from the ceiling and shelves of leather and ropes.

“I thought that’s where the nickname Nine came from,” Anna replied.

“I had another name besides that one. Fewer people knew it,” Nine said.

“What was it?”

“Death Angel.” Nine saw the flare in Anna’s eyes. “Not saying that to scare you. Saying it to let you know that I could kill every bastard in this room before any of them touched you.”

And Nine could tell from the breath Anna released and the little squeeze she gave his arm that she appreciated the knowledge.

He also figured Gate could do with a little reassurance. He might not hear the big fucker over the earpiece, but he knew he was listening to every word and probably close to losing his shit, no matter what he’d said to Anna before they left.

They reached the bondage area, and Nine turned so that his back was to the room, hiding Anna from view. “Gonna take off your cape and tie your hands. Then I’ll suspend you from the ceiling. Your feet will touch the floor, but you should take off your shoes in case we need to leave in a hurry. Then I’m going to start with the ropes. Relax, as much as you can. And depending on how things go with the crowd, I’ll use a whip after that.”

“A whip?” Anna’s breath caught.

“It’ll draw crazy attention. Most likely to bring Freemont over here.”

“Probably should have mentioned that I’m not into pain before now. But I’m not into pain,” Anna said, though a flirty smile played around her lips.

“It’ll feel like a massage. I swear.”

Anna looked up, “I really hope you’re good at this.”

Nine nodded, “Let the camera do its work. Stash and Rooster have got this. Scene starts now. Eyes stay on me. Got it?”

“Got it,” Anna answered.

Nine’s voice dropped an octave, “What’s that?”

Anna sighed, the tension going out of her shoulders, “Got it, sir.”

Nine unclipped Anna’s cape and pulled it from her shoulders. Then he stepped to the side and draped it over a char, giving the crowd plenty of time to catch sigh of Anna as she stood there, her lithe body encased in emerald silk and her red hair flaming in the candlelight.

It didn’t take long. Couples from around the room started their way. Nine smirked while he took his time selecting his first rope.

Rope in hand, he circled in front of Anna and turned her slightly so that people could watch the performance but the camera in her necklace could still get the crowd. He’d keep his promise that no one would touch her, and within the confines of Club Monaco, he knew that their space would be respected, but with so many unknowns present tonight, he wasn’t sure he could count on everyone following the rules.

Number one beingkeep your hands off what’s not yours.

As he wrapped the ropes around Anna’s wrists, he whispered, “How are you feeling?”
