Anna thought for a moment, her eyes never leaving his face, “My heart’s beating faster, but I think that’s just nerves. I’m okay with what you’re doing.”

“Let me know if that changes. Tonight we’ll useredas a safe word.”

Anna nodded.

“Let me hear it,” Nine corrected.

“Red is my safe word. Sir,” she tacked on at the end.

“Good girl,” Nine said. “Now, kick off your shoes.”

Once Anna stepped out of her shoes, he led her to the hook and helped her reach for it, looping the rope knot over the metal so that she was stretched out with her arms above her head, spread out for everyone to see.

Nine stood behind her and trailed his hands down her arms. “See how they watch you?” he whispered in her ear.

Anna’s breath went shallow, but she nodded.

“You’re the most beautiful woman here, and they all know it,” Nine said.

Anna blew out a breath and visibly relaxed.

Nine returned to the shelves for more rope, and then he created a masterpiece, looping, tying, criss-crossing Anna’s body until only her back was left bare.

He’d checked in with her as the scene progressed, but now, before he went to the next step, he took her jaw in his fingers and lifted her chin. Her heavy-lidded eyes blinked at him. “Still okay?” he asked.

“Surprisingly relaxed,” she whispered.

“Perfect,” Nine said.

Then he turned back to the shelves and reached for the whip.

Anna

Oh, shit.

So far, everything Nine had done had helped me relax so that my heartbeat had calmed from an insane gallop to a mild trot.

But now he was reaching for a whip, and while I understood the premise,do something to draw a crowd, allowing someone to strike me with anything, especially a whip, was so far outside my comfort zone, it might as well be another planet.

So I played my part with half-lidded eyes, facing the crowd so that the camera had the best vantage point to scan all the faces.

Nine circled in front of me again. “Remember your safe word. Don’t be afraid to use it if you need to.”

“You promised me a massage,” I whispered. “Not letting you out of it.”

Nine’s smirk was lethal. How this man was still on the market was a mystery to me.

“Just fall into it,” he instructed.

Then he was gone, and I heard the whistle of the whip flying through the air, and then thepopat the end, the leather tail barely brushed my skin. Just enough to leave a tiny ring of warmth that spread out like ripples in a pond.

And Nine was at my back again, his hand stroking the exposed skin. “How was that?”

“Pleasant,” I answered honestly.

“You want more?”
