Smokey

Rolling her jeep to a stop in the driveway, Smokey studied her brother’s house.

Suburban neighborhood, craftsman style home, manicured lawn.

Not at all what people would expect from the Sergeant at Arms of the Bloody Saints MC.

But that was her brother.

Ridley Jessup, aka Widowmaker, and the scourge of the greater South Carolina area, was a surprisingly intelligent man who’d turned out to be the best big brother on the planet and who also happened to own a few patents in the medical field for advancements he’d developed and she’d put out into the community.

Hence, the swank house with the fancy yard.

And garage full of classic muscle cars and Harleys.

Smokey sighed and wondered where her brother would be today if it weren’t for her.

Probably featured inFortune 500or practicing medicine. He could have done either. Hell, he could have done both.

At the rumble of a Harley, Smokey hopped out of her jeep and turned around on a grin.

But it wasn’t her brother who met her in the driveway.

It was Axe, her brother’s president.

And her ex.

And that relationship had not ended well.

Smokey leaned back against her jeep and crossed her booted feet, one ankle over the other. She kept her hands loose at her sides, refusing to show either revulsion or fear.

Axe turned off the engine, planted his booted feet in the driveway, and looked at her, “Whatcha doin’ here?”

Smokey nodded toward the craftsman, “My brother’s house.”

“Doesn’t answer the question, Smoke.”

“Came to see my bro,” Smokey shrugged. “Doesn’t look like he’s home, so I’m gonna split. Due at the hospital soon anyway,” she lied, popping the door and hauling her ass up into her jeep.

“What’s with you and that half breed Ryder?” Axe sneered.

“Not your business, Axe,” Smokey said, pulling the door of the jeep closed.

She started the engine.

“Would be too bad if something happened to him,” Axe yelled over it.

Smokey threw the jeep into reverse and backed away from the fight she knew was coming. The fight she’d known was coming for years.

Heading away from her brother’s house, she picked up her phone and dialed. But not the number she really wanted to.
