“Who are all these people?” Anna whispered, without breaking stride.

“I’ll introduce you,” Gate answered.

“What are they doing here?” Anna went on.

“Not sure yet.”

Stella bounded up first, throwing her arms around both parents, “I knew it!”

Cassie was right behind her offering up her two cents, elbowing Lucky in the ribs, “Sotold you this was gonna happen.”

Lucky hugged his mom and slapped his dad’s shoulder, “You costing me money, old man.”

“You running a line on me and your mom?” Gate laughed.

“Over and under,” Lucky grinned. “I was off by some days.”

Talon was next up, Jenna in tow, followed by Ryder. “I, however, cleaned house,” Talon said, shaking Gate’s hand.

“What’s my cut?” Gate asked while Jenna reached over her ever-expanding belly to put an arm around Anna and whisper in her ear.

Anna looked up at him, “Gonna be back, okay?”

“Don’t go far,” Gate said with a nod, not wanting to let her out of his sight, but he watched her go with Jenna and then disappear into a colorful flock of women.

“You good?” Talon asked, watching the same show Gate was.

Gate turned to his friend with a grin, “Fucking fantastic. Now, tell me what the hell all these people are doing here.”

Anna

“I don’t know these people,” I mumbled as Jenna pulled me through the maze of tables scattered throughout the common room.

“But they know you,” Jenna threw over her shoulder.

Well, I couldn’t argue that, so I tripped my way behind her toward a table full of women grinning like loons.

And front and center was my daughter.

“Mommmm,” she squealed as she threw her arm around me again.

I returned the squeeze and grinned at the sheer joy of her embrace.

“Face hurt from smiling yet?” Jenna asked.

Stella stepped back, and I reached up to touch my cheek. “Actually, yes.”

A woman in a Star Wars tee stepped up with her hand out. “I’m Gabby,” she said. “We sort of met at the baby shower. Welcome to the posse.”

“Posse?” I asked, shaking her hand with wide eyes.

“Told ya, mom,” Stella nodded sagely.

Layla tipped her drink in my direction, “Welcome. And it is most definitely a posse.”

“Who’s a posse?” a husky voice asked.
