“No,” Talon sighed, ending the call and sliding his phone into his back pocket. “Be back,” he said.

Deuce watched his brother jog toward the car at the other end of the lot.

For about three seconds.

“Something’s sideways,” Deuce said, checking the rest of the lot and then the buildings across the street.

Brick pulled a nine from the back of his jeans, eyes on the shadows.

Ryder followed Brick’s lead, pushing away from the building and pulling his weapon.

“I’m going backup,” Deuce said, starting in Talon’s direction.

In spite of his size, he crossed the parking lot like a wraith, and didn’t stop until he had a clear line on Talon’s back where he leaned down into the passenger’s window.

“What thefuckare you doin’ here?” Deuce heard his brother ask.

And when Deuce heard the voice that answered from the car, he ducked even lower and strapped in to listen.

Talon

“Whatever shit you got going with Gate, now isnotthe time,” Talon growled.

Anna leaned across the passenger’s seat and grabbed a handful of Talon’s cut. “Listen to me, you arrogant motherfucker.”

Talon’s eyes went wide. Even though he knew from Gate that Anna had a temper, he’d never actually been witness to it himself, but right now her eyes were spitting mad and her fingernails were about to shred his leather.

“Ease up now, darlin’,” he started, throwing the same voice at her that worked on the hookers.

“Don’t talk to me like I’m one of your whores, T,” she said, letting go of the cut but not the daggers she glared at him.

And not for the first time, Talon noticed that his brother’s ex wasn’t just a looker. She was astunner, all Irish cream skin with auburn hair and icy blue eyes. And at the moment, all that ice was directed at him.

She was either pissed or scared, and as Talon hadn’t spent much time with her over the past fifteen years, he wasn’t sure which it was. But he knew that neither one was good.

“I knew this was a mistake,” Anna said, reaching for the ignition.

“What was a mistake?” Talon frowned. “How’d you know I was here?”

Anna flashed her eyes at him again, “Rosie’s not the one who wanted to meet with you, T. I am. I’m the one who knows where the girls are. And I know about Blaine Freemont and the war he is about to bring to Savannah.”

Rocked by that news, Talon leaned further, “How do you know this?”

Anna huffed out a breath and threw herself back in her seat, “Women talk, Talon. And I listen. And I hear all kinds of shit that I keep to myself, but I couldn’t let this go. This is big, and I can’t protect him anymore.”

“Protect who?” Talon asked, feeling like there was a whole conversation going on that he wasn’t hearing.

“Gate. I can’t protect Gate anymore, so you’re gonna have to do it for me.” Anna reached for the arm Talon had propped inside the window and held on, gentler this time. “Promise me, Talon.Promiseme.”

“Yeah, I promise,” Talon said, nodding at her. He covered her hand with his, “You know I will. Always have.”

“I know,” she said, squeezing his hand and then letting go. “The girls are being held at the Sundown Inn on the other side of Hardeeville. They’ll be there until tomorrow night. Guards posted outside but not in the room.”

“Anna, I gotta ask….” Talon started.

But Anna kept on talking, “First shipment is already gone, so three are out. You won’t get them back.” She took a breath, “I figure Tex has Cassie tagged, so you won’t have any problems finding her, but I don’t know what you’re walking into once you get there. If you want to find out, go to The Waving Girl on River Street. Look for a white guy calls himself Reaper. Big ass tattoo right here,” she said, touching the inside of her arm above her wrist.
