I’d been sitting at the bar, drinking coffee, and waiting, while Ink, Ruger, and Hatchett took turns helping me with Tex and keeping me entertained.

When I heard the doors, I stood and only made it two steps before Cass hit me square in the chest, and if it hadn’t been for Ink at my back, we both would have hit the floor.

I held her tight. “My baby,” I whispered into her hair as she sobbed against my shoulder.

Boots scuffed, and I looked up, Lucky staying close but not crowding.

“Where’s Talon?” I asked.

Lucky’s eyes didn’t leave Cassie, but he smirked, “Said to tell his princess he’s on the way.”

“So he’s okay?” I went on, swallowing hard against the burning in my throat.

“Yes, ma’am,” Lucky answered, eyes glued to my girl.

Before I could puzzle out what that look meant, the front doors opened again, and Talon’s eyes found mine across the room.

My man walked toward me, all ripped tee and stained jeans, Gate right behind him.

Then Talon’s arms were around us both. And for the first time in my life, I had the world in my hands. And when the peace that flooded threatened to break me, Talon held me tighter, and I knew right then that he’d never let me go.

“Cassie?” Gate’s voice rumbled.

Cassie sniffed and raised her head, but she didn’t move away from me or Talon.

“Your questions,” she said, like she knew exactly what Gate wanted out of her.

Brick hit the doors next, and I watched but didn’t move while he walked over to the bar where Linda was pouring, grabbed a mug and settled back on a stool.

“Told you I’d be here,” Brick said, nodding at Cassie.

I looked from Talon to Gate and back. “What am I missing?” I glanced back toward the door, “Where’s Edward?”

Cassie’s eyes filled, and for the first time in her life, she didn’t look to me for guidance. Her eyes hit Talon’s, and he leaned in and kissed her hair.

And just like that, I fell even further.

“What happened?” I asked.

Talon kissed my forehead. “He’s gone,” he whispered against my skin.

“Gone where?” I asked, looking up.

Talon’s eyes, the blue of the deepest ocean, held worlds of emotion behind them, and at that moment, not all of those emotions were good.

“Let’s sit down,” Gate suggested, hitting one of the tables and pulling out a chair.

He dropped into it, and as soon as his ass hit the wood, Linda was there with a steaming mug.

Talon pulled us forward, and he, Cassie, and I took up the other three chairs with Brick still propped and Lucky standing close.

Ink got busy helping Linda pass out plates piled high with bacon, eggs, and toast.

Hatchett hung back at the bar with the pot of coffee.

Tank strolled in and didn’t stop walking until Hatchett passed him a mug.

They were all exhausted.
