The four Harleys rolled into the parking lot in front of Rosie’s building.

Tina lived a few doors down from her, and Carlie lived up one floor.

The brothers cut their engines, and Talon pulled out his phone.

“Hello?” Rosie answered.

“Got the boys down in the lot. We’re here to check on you girls. Mind if we come up?” Talon asked.

Rosie hesitated. Very unlike her.

Talon shot Ryder a look.

He got off his bike and dropped his helmet on the seat. He motioned for Brick who mirrored his actions.

Ryder and Brick took off toward the stairs at a jog.

“What’s wrong, Rosie?” Talon asked into the silence.

Nine pulled off his helmet and then stepped away from his bike. Reaching into the back of his jeans, he drew the Sig Sauer hidden under his cut.

The girls liked to tease Nine that he got his nickname from the inches he was packing in his jeans. Not true. He got his nickname in the Marines because he was the best with a 9 mm any of the jarheads had ever seen.

“Nothing’s wrong. Just not the best time, right now,” Rosie said in a rush.

“Rosie, talk to me,” Talon demanded.

“Can’t talk right now, Mom. Got a party, and I don’t want to be late,” Rosie said, her voice shaking.

“On the way,” Talon muttered, ending the call and pointing toward the back of the building. “Take the back. I’m going up.”

Nine took off at a run, pistol in hand.

Talon ran toward the stairs Ryder and Brick had disappeared into earlier.

Just as he reached them, a body fell from the second floor and landed in the grass at his feet with a sick crunch and a bounce.

Talon looked up, and Brick was vaulting over the railing, feet first, flying through the air.

Brick landed in a crouch, pulled the man up by his shirt, and then leveled him with a right hook. The man’s body went slack, and Brick dropped him to the ground.

“We could have contained that,” Ryder said, jogging down the stairs.

Brick crossed his arms over his chest. “Example,” he said, gesturing at the unconscious man. “Those motherfuckers’ll think next time.”

“What the fuck, Brick?” Talon asked, looking around to see how many spectators they had. “We need him alive to talk. Jesus.”

The few people who’d been checking them out disappeared as soon as they saw Iron Dragons cuts.

The people knew the brothers watched out for some of the women here, and they appreciated the presence. They also knew that if some motherfucker was on the ground, there was a good reason for it.

“He’s alive,” Brick answered, pulling out his phone and dialing. He waited a beat and then spoke. “We need a cleanup on aisle seven.”

Nine rounded the corner of the building. “I didn’t’ see…,” he stopped when he saw the body. “Guess we’re done here.”

Brick shoved his phone in his pocket. “Stash and Rooster are on their way with the van. They’ll take him back to the club. We’ll interrogate him when he wakes up.”

Talon glanced up and saw Rosie watching from the second floor. “You okay?” he asked.
