She nodded, “I am now. Come on up.” She disappeared into the walkway.

“Brick, you and Nine hang with this asshole. Ryde and I will check on the girls here,” Talon said, moving toward the stairs.

Brick nodded. “Then we’ll take Westlake and meet you at Chatham,” he said, naming the complexes where most of the girls lived.

The girls who worked for the club ranged from late teens to late thirties. They also came in a variety of colors, shapes, and preferences. Some had kids. A few had husbands, and some even had girlfriends.

The Dragons got a cut of everything they made, and they got MC protection. It was a risky way to make a living, but considering the safety offered by the club was far better than most pimps or strip clubs offered, they could do a lot worse.

Which was why Spider’s attack on Rosie hit so close to home. The girls trusted the Dragons, and without that trust, the whole house of cards fell.

Talon hit Brick with a chin lift and joined Ryde on the stairs.

Rosie’d left the door cracked, so Talon entered without knocking.

She stood in the living room, smoking a cigarette, her hands shaking.

Talon eyed the room. Nothing out of place.

He nodded toward the back of the apartment, and Ryder pulled a pistol from his jeans and then walked down the hallway toward the bedroom and bathroom, just in case.

“They’re gone,” Rosie said, blowing smoke toward the ceiling.

“Where’s Jeremy?” Talon asked.

“With his dad this weekend. Thank God.”

“Good,” he said. “What happened?”

Rosie walked into her tiny kitchen and opened the fridge. She pulled out a bottle of water and offered it to Talon. He shook his head.

Ryder walked back into the room, and Rosie passed the water bottle to him. He propped against the dining table, opened the bottle, and drank.

“This dude knocks on my door, right? At first I thought it was you guys, but when I looked through the peep hole, I didn’t know him. He keeps banging, yelling, ‘I know you’re in there’. Tina was coming over because we were gonna ride out together. So she gets here, and he grabs her. Right in front of my door!”

“Where’s Tina now?” Ryder spoke, his voice low.

“I opened the door to help her, and she kicked him in the balls and ran. But he got in, and then the bastard wouldn’t leave.”

“What’d he want?” Talon spoke, a hard edge to his voice.

“He wanted to know where the rest of the girls lived. I didn’t tell him shit,” Rosie said, stabbing her cigarette into an ashtray.

“I need to go check on Tina?” Ryder asked.

Rosie shook her head. “I called her when y’all were walking up. She’s on her way.” Rosie looked at me. “You still want us out tonight?”

“How’d you get Brick in here?” Talon asked instead of answering.

Rosie shrugged. “Told the dude Brick was my John and would break the door down if I didn’t answer. He thought he could take Brick.Jaysus,” she said with a deep Southern drawl.

Talon glanced at Ryder and then back to Rosie. “Yeah, I want you back out tonight. We’ll be on the road, checking on you girls. Stay in groups, and don’t go with anyone who looks sketchy.”

Rosie laughed, “They’re booking hookers. They all look sketchy.”

A soft knock sounded at the door.

Rosie crossed the room and opened it. A bottle red head walked in, sizing up Talon and Ryder with a practiced eye.
