I finally pull away, staring down at her swollen lips before lifting my gaze to her glossy eyes.
“Sky,” I rasp, cupping her face in my palm. “What is it? Talk to me.” I brush my thumb along her wet cheeks.
“Everett…” She whimpers, her voice cracking. “I’ve never been so scared in my entire life. I thought… I thought I lost you.”
“But you didn't,” I breathe, shaking my head. “I’m still here. I’m right here.”
She slides her hand across my jaw, mapping the lines of my face before threading her fingers in my hair. She pushes our foreheads together, the tip of her nose brushing against mine.
“I’m sorry, Everett,” she whispers. “I’m so fucking sorry it took me so long. I’m sorry I wasted three years. I’m so—”
“You have nothing to apologize for, Sky—”
She cutsmeoff this time.
“And I’m not wasting another minute,” she rasps, holding my stare like a sacred promise. “I want to spend every day of the rest of my life with you. I want everyone to know that you’re mine. I never,ever, want you to question the way I feel about you again. Because you’re everything to me, Everett.Everything.”
I pull her mouth to mine, smiling against her lips. I kiss her quick but breathless as she moans into my mouth. I brush my tongue against hers before pulling back, just enough to stare into her ocean eyes.
“So, you wouldn't care if my parents walked in and saw you attacking my face?” I smirk.
Her eyes narrow to little slits as she stares at me through pinched brows.
“I wasnotattacking your face,” she rolls her eyes. “Plus, you kissed me first.”
“Oh, I wasone hundredpercent attacking your face,” I quip, arching a brow. “And I plan to do it more than once, so you better get used to it.”
She chuckles before her face falls, her expression turning serious. A beat of silence passes before I already miss hearing her voice.
“What’s going on in that head of yours?” I ask, tapping my finger against her temple.
She inhales a deep breath, her eyes darting away for a brief second.
“Your family knows,” she says quietly as her body tenses against mine.
“Yeah… I figured they did,” I say. “I mean, it’s kind of obvious at this point,” I chuckle sarcastically.
“Yeah,” she mutters lowly. She darts her away, like she’s ashamed or embarrassed. When she lowers her head, I place my finger beneath her chin, tilting her gaze up to meet mine.
“Hey,” I rasp. “It’s all going to be okay. It’s going to be uncomfortable for a while, but it will all work out. I promise.”
“Okay,” she nods, placing a soft kiss to the tip of my nose.
“So uh… I’m guessing you talked to Elliot,” I mutter, hoping everything went okay. Even though I can barely move right now, I will crawl out of this hospital bed and kick his ass if he was a dick to her.
“Yeah, I did,” she nods. “It uh… it actually went better than I expected. I also talked to your mom… about us.”
“Really?” I ask, my brows shooting up. “How did that go?”
“It went as good as it could have gone,” she shrugs. “Your mom is great, you know that. She loves Elliot just as much as she loves you, and at the end of the day, she just wants both of you to be happy. But it’s definitely going to be an adjustment for her. It’s not going to be roses and sunflowers overnight. It’s going to take your family time, and I understand that.”
