“Exactly,” I nod without hesitation. “Plus, I’ll be more relaxed driving through bad weather if you’re not in the truck. Sky,” I exhale a shaky breath. “I wouldneverforgive myself if something happened to you.Ever.”

“This makes no sense,” she croaks, barely audible.

“Then let me explain it to you in three words…I love you,” I rasp, threading my fingers through her hair. “I want to make sure you get home safe. I’m not taking any chances. So, you’re going to walk into that airport and board your flight. And when I get to Dallas tonight, you’re the first person I’m coming to. I promise, baby.”

“Everett,” she exhales, pressing her forehead to mine. “What about you?”

“I’m going to be fine, baby,” I whisper, pressing a kiss to her furrowed brows. “I’ll update you each hour just so you know that I’m safe. Okay?”

“Rett…” She shakes her head.

“You can call me as many times as you want. Plus, I’ll need something to fill the time since I won’t have a passenger princess with me,” I chuckle, a smug smile stretching across my lips.

“I amnota passenger princess,” she chuckles, arching a brow.

“That’s debatable,” I scoff, tossing her a wink.

A beat of silence passes before she closes her eyes, inhaling a deep breath.

“Fuck,” she exhales, sniffling as she wipes away a tear from the corner of her eye. “I want to be pissed at you, but this is so freaking sweet. Plus, I kind of love airports.”

My brows shoot up.

“Hold on… Did you just say you love airports? Do I need to check you into a mental hospital?”

“I literallyloveairports,” she chuckles, standing her ground. “It’s such a good time. I get myself an iced coffee and some snacks before reading mysteriously in a corner while waiting for my flight. It’s seriously the best.”

“Reading mysteriously in a corner?” I quip, arching a brow. “Please tell me that’s not a thing.”

“Itisa thing,” she retorts. “It’s called having a main character moment.”

“Jesus Christ,” I scoff, shaking my head. “Well, then you better get your ass in that airport so you can have yourmain character moment.”

Lines form in the corner of her eyes as she laughs, her hot breath kissing my lips.

“Seriously, though,” I clear my throat, my voice coming out softer. “You should probably head inside, baby. The airport looks really busy today. I’m sure the security line is going to be crazy long. And I already texted you your boarding pass. Just take your backpack and leave your suitcase with me so you don’t have to check a bag.”

“Are you sure about this, Everett?” She asks, sliding her hands up my chest to cup my face.

“One hundred percent,” I whisper against her lips.

“Promise me you’ll be careful?”

“I promise, baby.” I dip my head before placing a soft kiss to her lips.

“Promise you’ll stop if the roads get too dangerous?”

“Of course,” I nod. “You’ll be the first to know if I do.”

“Okay,” she whispers, nuzzling her nose against mine. “I already miss you.”

“Me too, angel,” I rasp, pressing a kiss to the tip of her nose. “But we’ve waited three years for each other, we can make it twelve more hours.”

“Yeah, I guess you're right,” she chuckles against my lips.

A beat of silence passes as we just stare at each other, in awe that this is our new reality. A life that we never thought we’d have.

“Time to go, baby,” I rasp, swiping my thumb across her soft lips.
