Here we go again,I think to myself.

“Hi,” I mutter, holding his stare.

“Can we talk?” He asks, his warm breath blowing out like smoke in the frigid air.

I tear my gaze from him, inhaling a deep breath as I stare off into the distance.

“Skylar,” he pleads, taking another step towards me. “Please.”

“Elliot—”

“Please,” he cuts me off. “I just want to talk. You at least owe me a conversation.”

I owe him a conversation?

“I don’t owe you anything, Elliot,” I scoff.

His brows furrow as his eye narrows to little slits, his expression quickly changing from remorse to resentment.

“Oh,” he scoffs as his eyes darken. “You don’t think you oweme a conversation after I just learned that you’ve been in love with my brother for three fucking years?”

Jesus Christ.I can’t catch a break today.

“What?” I exhale, standing from the bench to turn and face him. He throws his arms up in the air before running his hands through his hair in frustration.

“Are you kidding me right now, Skylar?” He laughs sarcastically. “Don’t play dumb with me. I heard you tell my mom everything.”

What? That’s not possible. We were the only two in the room. I’m sure of it.

Elliot must notice the confusion etched across my face because he shakes his head, speaking before I have a chance to respond.

“Maybe next time you should shut the door before you decide to tell my mom that you’re in love with my brother. That you fucked him three years ago on our family vacation.” His nostrils flare as his chest heaves up and down with heavy breaths.

Oh my God.I close my eyes as I run a sweaty palm against my forehead.

“Does… Did your dad hear too?” My stomach churns as bile rises to my throat.

“Yes,” he clips. “We were right outside the door. We heard everything up until the doctor came in and shut the door. Thank God he did because my dad couldn't hold me back any longer. I couldn't fucking believe what I was hearing,” he shakes his head in disgust. “I still can’t believe it.”

This isn't how I wanted Elliot to find out, but I’m also not about to cower down to him. I’m not about to let him put all the blame on me like he usually does, not this time.

“How does it feel, Elliot?” I ask through clenched teeth. “How does it feel to have a taste of your own medicine, to be completely blindsided by someone you love?”

He scoffs, his brows shooting up as he flexes his jaw.

“So now you’re going to turn this around on me? Elliot’s always the bad guy, right?” He snaps. “Sorry, I forgot that you and Everett can do no wrong,” he scoffs, lifting his hands up in the air.

“Do you want me to admit my wrongs, Elliot?” I clip, stepping closer to him. “Because I will be the first one to own up to my shit. Yes, I cheated on you with your own brother. And I’m sorry that I don’t regret it. I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you. But honestly, we should have ended this a long time ago, because we both know that this breakup is about so much more than cheating. We’ve been unhappy for years, Elliot.”

He clicks his tongue, his nostrils flaring as he nods his head.

“Oh really?” He finally says, narrowing his eyes at me. “We’vebeen unhappy oryou’vebeen unhappy? Because I don’t ever recall having this conversation with you until now.”

“Elliot,” I exhale, “I’ve tried to talk to you about this so many times in so many different ways.”

“Hmmm,” he purses his lips, arching a brow. “I must have been asleep or deaf because I don’t ever remember you telling me how unhappy you are,” he spits.

“That’s because you don’t fucking listen!” I shout, throwing my hands up in the air. “You’ve been asleep our entire relationship, Elliot. This right here is exactly what I’m talking about.”
