Once we were on the other side, I raised my gun right away to take out any remaining threats. My boy was already on the move, his attention focused on the compound itself as he ran forward. Three guards lay dead to my right and another one to my left. They were obviously from the first team's entry, but I still worried about what we'd come up against.

"Dammit, Dante," I grumbled as I followed after him. We had a mission to complete. I'd spank his ass later for not waiting on me.

"Perimeter clear," Memphis called through the earpiece. Pharrell and crew must have worked quickly to give us the all clear since we weren't far behind them.

I sprinted toward where my boy was headed, our bodies prepared for the fight of our lives.I'd waited years to see this, and nothing would stop me. Not when my boy was ready to take his rightful place as the head of the organization.

I caught up to Dante at the back door, where I pulled him into my chest and held him steady as we waited for the signal from Memphis that we were good to go inside. I could hear the distant sound of shouting, and I hoped Dante's father was too deep in his work to notice.

My boy vibrated in my arms, his need to get moving driving him to act irrationally. I kissed the side of his head gently. When that didn't work, I moved down the side of his face and throat until I felt him sink more and more into my hold.

"That's it, baby. I've got you. Patience."

It was at that exact moment that Memphis said, "Go time!"

My pliant husband left. Out came The Monster.

He opened the back door confidently, his shoulders pulled back, and head held high. I followed him, my eyes trained to spot any possible dangers.

"You remember, don't you?" he called over his shoulder at me as he led the way through the massive compound to his father’s office. We didn't come in contact with anyone along the way, though we could see the others fighting all around us.

As we approached the office, there was a stillness that made me somewhat nervous. I was about to suggest we wait a second for intel from Memphis when Dante swung the door open. The office space revealed Mr. Romano seated behind his desk, a grin on his face as if he'd been expecting us.

I raised my gun at him as I followed Dante inside. My boy didn't say anything at first. He just stared at his father, letting the full weight of his hatred shine through.

"Should have known you'd convince him to turn against me, Preacher. You never could appreciate the life we'd given you," he sneered.

I scoffed as I kept my pistol aimed at his forehead. "He didn't need convincing from me. This was all his idea. I merely pulled him out of the prison you kept him in so he could be free."

"Bullshit. I gave him freedom. He traveled the entire fucking country to do as he pleased. The only place he couldn't be was beside you."

"And yet, here we are. Him beside me as we come to end your pathetic life." I was worried that Dante still hadn't spoken, but I figured it was because he wanted to know what his father had to say. He wanted answers before Yamamoto made his way here to finish the job.

I put my hand on Dante's back to move him towards the chair across from the desk. Pulling it back slightly, I eased him into it so he and his father would be face to face.

"Ask him, baby. Get the closure you need for this," I whispered, then pressed a kiss to the crown of his head.

His father looked disgusted by the affection I gave so freely. It made me want to bend my boy over and fuck him right in front of his face. Let his phobic ass truly see how much I could push his buttons.

"You should be better than this, Dante. You don't need to stoop this low. I could have you a wife like that," he said with a snap of his fingers. "Whatever kind you want too. Big boobs, big ass, doesn't matter. We can pay for it to be bigger if it's not enough."

"Shut up!" Dante roared.

"How dare you — !?"

"How dare I? You sit here talking about women like that and you think I'm the one being audacious?"

His father's jaw ticked as he fought back whatever he wanted to say. He knew I wouldn't mind putting a bullet or two in him before the real fun started. I had zero fucks to give in this game we were playing. So long as my boy was safe and happy, the rest was unimportant.

"Just tell me. Tell me why you're so goddamn afraid of me being gay. Why did you send me away?" Dante said calmly, the fire in his voice having died out.

His fist banged on the desk. "Because it's wrong. You shouldn't live like that. It's supposed to be a man and a woman."

"But that's not what makes me happy. And there have been gay couples for centuries. You're choosing to live in that hate. You want to ruin my happiness simply because you're a fucking pathetic bastard. Isn't that right, father dear?"

If my boy didn't stop soon, I'd be killing this fucker, promises or no promises to Yamamoto. I hated seeing the way his body tightened with sadness. I hated hearing his voice laced with pain.

"You're better than this, Dante. You could be a great leader someday. This organization needs someone with your abilities."
