We’ve been holed up in my bedroom enjoying each other’s bodies all week. I hate for the week to come to an end, but tonight’s going to be special.

Greg Waters was arrested that day. I don’t think he’ll see the light of day for years to come.

Harley seems to be handling the circumstances well, all things considered. I’m thankful we got there in time. I suggested that she talk to someone when we get back to the hospital. She said she would. I plan to see to it.

We arrive at the club, and I offer to go to the bar to grab us a few drinks. She says that she’s on antibiotics and can’t drink, so I don’t drink either.

“Let’s just go dance. I need to feel your body on mine.” She grabs my hand as we head straight for the dance floor. We’re immediately all over each other.

Not that we ever let it stop us at a club, but it’s nice to not care about who sees us like this. I get to enjoy her wherever and whenever I want to.

I hold her from behind, swaying our hips to the beat, while running my hands all over her body. I take in her scent and run my lips up and down her neck. I whisper in her ear. “Come home with me tonight.”

She smiles. “Sorry. I’m not that kind of girl.”

I turn her around and pull her to me. I latch on to her bottom lip and suck it. She moans. I motion my head toward the stairwell. Her eyes light up as she nods.

We climb the two flights toward the roof. Just as we’re walking through the door, she turns her body around to me so that she’s walking backwards, holding onto my shirt.

She pulls me through the door with her. “Dr. Cooper, did you just bring me to this club to fuck me on the roof aga…” I cover her mouth and turn her around. Her mom, Jackson, her sisters, her brothers, and of course Cassandra are standing on the roof. They’re all shaking in silent laughter at her words.

She turns back around to me with her eyes wide open, but I’m down on one knee. She gasps.

“Harley, our love story began on this roof. It was love at first sight for me. You left your mark on my soul that night, and it just wouldn’t go away. I know it will stay there forever. I love your beauty, both on the outside and the inside. Your mind and heart are just as beautiful as your stunningly perfect exterior. I love you with every part of myself. I know without a doubt that you’re my soulmate. Spend your life with me. Marry me?” I pull out a big, gorgeous diamond ring that my future mother-in-law helped me choose when I snuck out for a little while this week.

Harley has tears in her eyes. She grabs my face and gently kisses my lips. “Yes, I’ll marry you, but I have one condition.”

I smile. “Oh really, what’s that?”

“It needs to beverysoon.”

“That’s fine with me, but why?”

“Because, Brody Cooper, this is a shotgun wedding.” She smirks at me.

It takes me a moment for it to register. When it does, my face must show it because she laughs.

I look up at her. “You’re pregnant?” She nods. The biggest grin of my life crosses my face, shortly thereafter followed by hers.

I wrap my arms around her and kiss her. I pick her up as I stand back on my feet. She wraps her legs around me. I ignore the pain, as I kiss her long and hard. Trevor and Cassandra both shout, “Get a room.” Everyone laughs before they run over and congratulate us.

EPILOGUE

THE PRESENT

BRODY

“Dr. Cooper?”

We both say, “Yes,” at the same time. We laugh. Everyone is still getting used to there being two Dr. Coopers at the hospital now.

We got married a week after I proposed. It happened at the shore. I finally started calling it the shore instead of the beach.

It was just her huge family, along with my father and Melanie. The actual ceremony was on the beach at sunset, and it was perfect. She’s perfect.

A few weeks ago, she chose her surgical specialty. Much to my chagrin, she went with cardiothoracic. I supposed I understand why, but I miss having her in surgery with me.
