She smiles at me again. Wow, her smile is gorgeous. “A few years.” She mutters under her breath, “Hopefully a few more.”

Here’s my opening. “I’m sorry, what was that?”

“Nothing, I was just saying that I hope I have it for a few more years.”

“Why wouldn’t you? Business isn’t good?”

“Business is great. There are just some big corporate assholes trying to strongarm me into selling.”

I smile. My father is exactly that. A big corporate asshole. The biggest there is.

“Did they offer you money to sell?”

“You’re very nosey, LeRond. But you’re cute, so I’ll indulge you.” She winks at me. She’s flirting with me. “Yes, they’ve offered me money, but I’m not selling.”

“Why not take the money and run?”

“Well, in part because I think my business is worth more than they’re offering and in part because my father’s dream was for me to run a successful business. It’s how I honor his memory.”

“Oh, he passed?”

“Yes, when I was in college.”

“I’m sorry. You were close?”

“Thank you. Yes, very close. He was a successful businessman, and it was important to him that I follow in his footsteps.”

What am I supposed to do with this? My father’s such a heartless piece of shit. I have no clue why he’s hot and heavy for this business. We’re a Fortune 500 company. Why the hell is he interested in pushing out a young, small business owner honoring her late father? It makes no sense, and I want no part of it. It’s not worth indulging the spoiled child that my father is. I’ll find another way.

This girl is gorgeous, though. I wouldn’t mind taking her out.

“What’s your name, beautiful?”

She leans forward as she looks me up and down. I have no doubt she’ll like what she sees. All women do.

As she leans over the counter, I get my first peek at the top of her breasts. They’re big and full. I lick my lips.

She sticks out her hand. “I’m Reagan. It’s nice to meet you, LeRond.” Damn, I forgot that I gave her a fake name. “LeRond is an unusual name. Is there any meaning behind it?”

I smirk. “It’s French. I guess my parents knew what a great lover I’d be.”

She bursts out laughing. “Are you sure LeRond doesn’t mean something likegiant ego?”

“There’s a lot that’s giant about me, Reagan.” I wink at her.

She starts laughing again. We both smile as we stare at each other for a moment. The mutual attraction is clearly there. I’m about to confess my real first name when the door chime signals that the front door has been opened again.

A tall, decent-looking man walks in with a bag of food and smiles at Reagan. “How’s my favorite baby mama doing today?”

Baby mama? What the hell?

“Stop calling me that, Trevor.” She stands to kiss his cheek and I see that she’s pregnant. Very pregnant.

I completely misread this situation. I’m not usually this off. I start to walk back toward the door. “Nice to meet you, Reagan.”

“Wait, LeRond, I can explain. Don’t you need me to sign your paperwork?”

“No need. I have more deliveries. I’ll see you later.” Or maybe never.
