Aunt Cass still has a lot of reservations, but even she has admitted that we’re good together. Carter makes me happy. She recognizes that.

We’ve mostly avoided his family. We snuck in a meal with his mother when his father was away, but we’ve otherwise spent time with our friends and my family.

Jasmine and Collin seem to have a casual, fun relationship going. We’ve spent a lot of time with the two of them. Collin is a bit of nut, but I like him. I quickly realized that he’s one of the very few people in Carter’s life whom he trusts. It makes me sad for him that there are so few people in his inner circle. It must be lonely.

Business is great. I’ve had several new franchising inquiries. I’m starting to think globally in that regard.

Carter’s father still hasn’t retired, but he also seems to have backed off my suppliers. I’ve had very few issues since Carter and I started fake dating, and none since we announced the engagement.

I’ve been focusing on the growing brand, so I’ve made Jasmine the Philadelphia store manager. We’re in the store reviewing résumés and interviewing salespeople to work for her since I’m not around to help much anymore.

We’re sorting through a new pile of résumés before the next candidate walks in. We’re hysterically laughing at what some people put on their résumés.

“Jas, I’ve found the best one. Not only the job, but she apparently has a job into the future as well.Subway Sandwich Artist, June 2021-January 2033.” We both laugh.

Jasmine shakes her head. “Nope, I’ve got a better one.Burial Ground Custodian – duties include landscaping, burial set-up, and performance.” She’s laughing so hard, she barely gets out, “Performance? Do they put on shows for the dead people?”

I hold up another resume. “Oh my god. I have the winner. This woman worked atThe Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats.”

We’re both on the floor laughing now. Résumés are comedy gold.

We interview several candidates, none of whom have experience at Subway, a cemetery, or a charm school for cats.

I had my phone off while we were conducting the interviews. I turn it on to several texts from our family chat.

Mom: I know the wedding is only a few weeks away, but we’re thinking of a last-minute long weekend in Mexico this coming weekend. We have the jet. We’re leaving Friday morning, and coming back late Sunday night. We’re renting the same house that we did for our wedding. Let me know if you’re in. Last one in has to share a wall with Jackson and me. ;)

Harley: In.

Skylar: In.

Hayden: In.

Aunt Cass: In like your date Jeremy Springer at our freshman formal.

Mom: Cassandra!!

Kylie: We’d love to come. Thank you, Darian. We’re so excited.

Trevor: LOL. Reagan, better pack earplugs.

Shit. My phone was off for one damn hour, and I’m totally screwed.

Me: This is complete bullshit. I was in a meeting. This isn’t fair to Carter. It’s his first family vacation, and he’s going to have to listen to porn all weekend.

Harley: At least it’s not 3D porn.

Me: LOL. True.

Mom: Will you all stop. It’s not that bad.

Harley: Yes, it is.

Skylar: Yes, it is.

Aunt Cass: It’s as bad as you and George Fischer under the bleachers at sophomore homecoming.

Mom: Cassandra!!
