Trevor: OMG. I love my wife.
Mom: I promise to behave(ish).
I dial Carter’s cell phone. He answers. “Hey, beautiful. I was just thinking about you.”
“You were? Is the anaconda out?”
“It’s up, as it always is when I think about you, but it’s not out. Want to come to my office, crawl under my desk, open that luscious mouth, and give him some much-needed relief?”
I laugh. “I can’t today, but I promise to do that again soon. I have good news and bad news. The good news is that Jackson and Mom are flying us all down to Mexico for a long weekend this weekend. The bad news is that I was in a meeting when the text went out. As the last to reply, we’ll be subject to being in the room next door to my mom and Jackson.”
He laughs. “Is it really that bad? I can’t imagine it is.”
“I promise it’s worse than you’re imagining. She’s loud and he’s got major stamina going for him. You think it’s finally over, but it just keeps going and going and going.”
He laughs again. “We’ll manage. It sounds like a fun trip. I’ll see what I can do about giving Jackson a run for his money.”
“Okay, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
“I’ll see you tonight?”
“Yes. I’m having a late dinner with Jasmine, but then I’ll come over afterward.”
“What time?”
“I’m not sure. Just make sure the anaconda is out and ready when I get there.”
He laughs. “He’s always ready for you. I’ll see you then.”
“Bye.”
I go back to the group text chain.
Me: Ugh. Fine. We’re in. No one can complain if we blast loud music all night. Trevor, stay away from the lifeguard stands this time.
Aunt Cass: No (a word never uttered by your mother in college).
Mom: Cassandra!!
I smile as I put my phone in my purse. My family is one of a kind.
Jasmine and I head to one of the hottest new restaurants in the city for dinner. They’re known for fresh sushi and great martinis. We’re enjoying both.
We sit at our table, and I look at her. “How are things with Collin? You two always seem so happy together.”
She shrugs. “It’s fine. We do have a great time together. He’s funny and sexy. We’re casual though. Collin isn’t the guy for anything more. The good news is that he’s definitely the guy who will bend me over, pull my hair, spank my ass, and fuck me senseless.”
I laugh. “That’s what you said you wanted.”
She sighs. “You’re right. It is what I said I wanted. I guess I want that along with the real boyfriend stuff. Why don’t they make men who are both? It always seems to be one or the other.”
I can’t help the goofy smile currently spread across my face.
“Shit, Reagan. Carter’s both, isn’t he?”
I shrug. “Sorry, but he totally is.” Jasmine now knows the real deal with Carter and me. I’m with her every day, and she was there the first time he walked in. She’s not stupid. She figured it out on her own. She also knows how much things have changed for us in the past few weeks.
“Are you in love with him?”
