He widened his eyes and waggled his head at me like a Kindergartener. “Well, what if I actually do care?” He tried to tease me, but it was coming through as being sincere.Nope. Too much. Gotta go.

I took a step backward, away from him. Away from the overwhelming feelings of lust and, ew,affectionI suddenly felt toward my mate.

“How about you send me the details when you get a chance?” Again, my words came out much softer than I intended. I added some edge to my voice. “Now, get out of here before I shift a hoof and stomp on you.”Okay, but why did that sound flirty? This alpha has me losing it!

He picked right up on my accidental flirting. He put a hand on my hip and shook me a little, playfully, but it wouldn’t take much for the play to go out the window.

“You better watch out. I’m a predator. I’m a powerful, graceful, killing machine.

“Oh, please.” I arched my neck, purposefully showing how long and graceful it was. The white tips of Trevor’s leopard fangs poked past his lips. He licked his chops. It shouldn’t have turned me on like it did. “You’re a tiny, minuscule little predator.”

“Hey. I’m a big cat, and don’t you forget it.”

“You’re like, the littlest of the big cats. You’re not even big. You’re ‘smedium.’”

“I could take you down.”

“No, you couldn’t,” I sniffed, a smug grin on my face.Oh, my god, are we flirting?“I’m like, ten times bigger than you. I can kill a full-grown lion with one kick. It’s been documented. Imagine what I could do to you.”

He squeezed my hip then, and he meant business. “I can imagine a lot of things you could do to me.”

I rolled my eyes, faking the exasperation for once. “I mean with my hooves, genius. Have you seen the size of them? They’re like dinner plates.”

“Maybe I like being stepped on.” He meant it to provoke me, but as he said it, it didn’t sound like a bad time.Oh no, what have I become?

I held up a hand and shifted it into a giraffe hoof. “You think you can handle this?

“I’m not afraid of that. I’m not afraid ofyou.”

“You should be.” I gave him a playful shove with that hoof and it took every ounce of his strength not to go sprawling.

He dusted off his lapels and straightened his tie, grinning. “Yeah, okay, why am I so turned on right now?” His scent was masculine, and it had a hint of danger to it. There was also lots of arousal. He wasn’t lying about that.

I deflected to hide my own. “Gross. Don’t go getting any ideas about this date. I’m only in it for the money.”

“Sure, you are.”

“Whatever. Just be ready to pay up when the time comes.”

“I’ll be ready when the time comes, alright.”

“Whatever,” I said again, flustered, my body hot under my clothes. If I stood there any longer, I’d jump him. I threw a small, nonchalant “goodbye” over my shoulder and walked away. Once the date was over and the money was in my hands, I’d walk away completely.

Wouldn’t I?
